helbz Member 176 Member For: 14y 2m 12d Posted 19/10/11 12:41 PM Share Posted 19/10/11 12:41 PM (edited) I have an XFORCE stainless dump and XFORCE mild steel cat back and it seems to grow after giving it a good run and it knocks and moves around and as soon as I take it easy it seems to cool and stop knocking. Anyone else have a similair problem ? Do I need to replace the exhaust mount rubbers to some H Blocks, Could something be loose ? Something isn't right ! just wanting some info before I crawl under the beast for a look see. So I have since had a sideways mount added at the very tail end of the exhaust as there was a huge amount of sideways movement. I also added a solid mount from a gearbox bellhousing bolt (had heaps of thread sticking out) to the dump pipe as there was only about 5mm or less gap between that and the bellhousing. No more knocking now. Think it was knocking below the driveshaft hanger against the chassis. If that isn't pushed right up it will hit. Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/77449-exhaust-growth/#findComment-1151638 Share on other sites

Does it only knock when turning left? Also mild steel doesnt grow as much as stainless so your lucky there. The knocking wont be the dump pipe, it will most likely be the cat hitting the body. What happens is as it heats up, the bends open up. Picture your arm/elbow 90 degrees. Then straighten it out slightly simulating the zorst opening when hot. If u can take this into consideration then get under your car and visualise this happening, you can work out where things are moving. Looking from the rear, it sits way to the right of the exhaust cutout. The stock rubber's holes are way to big for the xforce hangers too.I was told when it was fitted that quite often xforce exhausts need modifying/slight bending to get a nice fit.I'm not real fussed by it anymore. Never heard of that with a car before. Get very hot yes, more pressure in the system yes, but not warped steel surely.I would think this is more a knock of a shield due to poor fitting which XForce are renowned for (or poor mounting), but happy to be proved wrong as I'm not a metalwork genius!!
