April 23, 201115 yr #1 looking at taking out middle muffler then came across this. can replace middle with the varex remote middle muffler, turn off when I want quiet, turn on when I want loud. price, which I think is not to expensive is $389. anyone had anything to do with the varex. there on the xforce website so I think they make them, which can't be to bad. should bolt into any xforce exhaust system im told. don't think there such a bad idea.
April 23, 201115 yr #2 Hmmmm. This sounds like a Good option.. I will look into adding something like this if mine gets loud
April 23, 201115 yr #3 Author there on ebay, range in price from $359 to $389. also have rear mufflers. on the xforce website there is vids aswell.
April 24, 201115 yr #5 I had one on my Mitsubishi Legnum. Worked great although when closed it sucks alot of power. Be happy with your loud level then late at night turn it down or when you come across RBT's, etcBen
April 25, 201115 yr #6 Surely between the two settings there is going to be a different back pressure which I thought would affect the tune. ie. if you change your cat for a hi-flow, you reduce your backpressure and will tend to overboost. Does it not do the same with this sort of situation? I am not making statements here that this will happen, this is a question. Can some a bit brighter than me answer this?
April 25, 201115 yr #7 Author I see where your getting at, my car is already tuned with a full turbo back exhaust. I don't think just changing the middle muffler would effect the tune. but I could be wrong. alot of guys have taken the middle muffler after having a tune done with no ill effect. if anyone can help out would be great.
April 25, 201115 yr #8 Any mod that changes exhaust flow will cause changes to boost which then require fuel and spark changes. If this muffler was fitted after a restrictive cat, there would not be a problem as the cat would be the restriction, if this muffler is the point of the restriction it will need changes made
April 26, 201115 yr #9 I think these mufflers are essentially a straight through design. At least the one I had was. If your replacing the same type of muffler and same diameter then I assume the changes will be minimal. This muffler will change things alot though when it is in quiet mode. Mine went from 3" to about an inch in quiet mode. Not sure what doing that to a tuned XR6 will do although in my case I only ran quiet mode for short periods and never at full throttle mainly because the power output sucked. I would happily get another one and am in fact contemplating it.Ben
April 26, 201115 yr #10 What would be more usefull is one that bypasses the CAT as this is where most of the restriction is.....I highly doubt it would be legal
