Improving Early Acceleration And Responsiveness

Featured Replies

hey guys

Am interested to know what mods will help with improving early acceleration and responsiveness?

is it mainly a Cooler air intake (e.g. plazmaman air intake kit)

or mainly a bigger/better intercooler?

or anything else I've missed? exhaust?

is it all in the way it is tuned?

I'm not looking to turn my car into anything too intense... just want to know an effective way to improve it.

Smaller turbo = quicker take off (ie. Like new fg's)

Shorter intake to turbo... And as short as possible piping from turbo to intercooler with least restrictive piping (ie. Mandrel bent)

Any sort of mod that'll increase air flow to get your turbo to spool quicker will do the job. A good strong tune will help too. Then you'll be searching for traction hi and low.

I'd invest the cash into a tune only.

cools, I do have an FG so I'm half-set with a smaller turbo :D

I was pretty set on getting a tune, was just wondering whether to get something else on top of that to augment it.

after processing a little more of what is out there... I'm guessing it comes down to something like a CAI with battery relocation or a better intercooler with piping kit?

I can only assume that both would give the best results... but if I had to choose one?

I am sure there would be a benefit to a cai, however if forced to choose I would suggest the piping, won't help performance but pipes don't like more boost, can pop on standard ones..

high flow cat, cooler+piping kit and a tune will help but the more you do the better the response will be

dnb,

With a tune you will see your injectors max out around the 270-280rwkw mark. Add some injectors and you should get close to 300rwkw. My expoerience is that with 300rwkw my car was very quick 0-100 with great response and still able to maintain decent traction at low speed. Venturing over the 300rwkw figure with an intercooler and dump pipe with cat has made my car quite a bit stronger up top but very difficult to get off the line cleanly.

so it seems the way it is tune is by far the most important, and we got a choice of

intercooler piping

high flow cat

injectors

I've always wanted to know this.. Which is the most limiting factor in the stock FG? the exhaust, intercooler/piping or the injectors?

- injectors > intercooler > exhaust?

or

- injectors > exhaust > intercooler

or anything else I'm missing..

It's more about efficiency then what will restrict. You can make the same power on different boost levels.

Definitely need bigger injectors if you want 270+...

Someone has made 420 on stock cooler. However, it probably drops to 320rwkw as heatsoak kills it!
