Hey everyone,

me and a mate are working on a burnout/drag mostly burnout car..

we have a toxic green xr6t sedan, ba 1, manual (5speed)

its been going pretty good so far (havent done many mods yet, 10 psi generic tune, bigger fmic)

but we have been surprised how long this LSD had lasted without spinning a single yet. the car has done 135,xxxkm and im pretty sure its still the original diff

so my questions are,

These m86 diffs seem to be pretty good, how much abuse do they usually take before they let go? im only used to having the bw78 lsd's in the older models... and they were horrible at taking abuse.

and if the lsd starts to fail, are there any places that sell a minispool or lokka for the m86 ( I have looked around without success), or would welding be my only option (hopefully wont need to weld)

any help is appreciated.

most diff places ive spoken to will do mini spools, full spools, kaaz centres and true tracs but usually advise against the first two as they are dangerous in a street car..but as yours is a burnout car a mini spool would be a good option as they are very cheap and still strong enough!!

cheers lee

thanks mate, ill have a look around for a minispool for when/if? it breaks. might to a ratio change while im at it.

but im just so surprised how well this LSD is holding up, it hasnt slipped at all yet. even doing burnouts when one wheel going on/off the road it still stays tight. these really are a strong diff, much much better than the old style.

I'd say you'll have more issues with the T5 box before the diff! 2nd gear normally goes first in those things - chuck a 3spd in it!

As others have mentioned the T5 gearbox is by far the weakest link, next would be the CV joints, followed by the tailshaft.

The diffs are not often a problem unless the other bits are upgraded and then you run sticky tyres.

ok so ill best be spending my money on a t56 then. then ill just fix things as the break. would a dump pipe and cat upgrade be worth while? or are the exhaust pipes also a major restriction? I was planning on getting an exhaust and proper tune, and was told a full exhaust system will get decent results, but getting just the dump and cat would cost ALOT less

Stock exhaust is good for about 300rwkw, if you do the car and dump, you will be able to get more out of the stck syste, as the Cat is the biggest restriction.

Will this car be roadworthy ? if not then you can do alot more exhaust mods.

yes the car must stay roadworthy, as it is also the back up car for if either me or my mates daily driver isnt on the road, but the car will get minimal driving.

I was told by a tuner that he found the defilipo full exhaust and a tune will get me some decent results, so I thought would just the dump and cat be sufficient to change or would the whole exhaust yield SOME extra benefit?

I would run it on methanol to give it the best change of keeping cool and living. buy some 80lb injectors maybe and one more bosch 044 inline pump up close to the fuel rail, refill the car with methanol for its meth tune and your done just keep the power down that's all at a reasonable level so it lasts well.

They already have plenty of power to rip skids so why have 400rwkw when it isn't needed!
