18/11/10 02:06 AM18/11/10 02:06 AM #12 +1 for clay bar. This is good. Thanks for that. Having purchased paint protection on the last 3 cars and selling them every 4 years, I can say that the $ for paint protection have been worth it. OK I'm serious about paintwork and keeping it clean. But I have no doubt that it works long term as every buyer of my cars have commented how good the paint work is. Now having said that the McQuires clay looks very interesting, but am I picking up differing opinions about how good it is? The video says it's not abrasive, but others say it is. The other issue is will the clay bars take off the paint protection that's on it? I've mainly used cleaner on my care, not polish. Always after a better result. Is it worth it?
18/11/10 02:10 AM18/11/10 02:10 AM #13 Bugs can stain the paint protections or waxes and sealants, they can also stain the clear coat. Its bloody annoying. I live in the country and have found if I wax my ute and then drive it after dark within a day or 2 the bugs will leave a lasting impression. I have to strip everything and start again.Long story short there is not much you can do about it. If you touch the paint you will void your "warranty" (as Adam said though, its not worth the paper its written on) best bet is to let Ford have a look at it. Anything you use to try to remove the bugs will also remove the "Paint Protection". However, you need to remove the PP to remove the stain unfortunately. If I recall the PP states you need to refresh it every 12 months to retain the warranty. If you don't it runs out after 12 months anyway. I'll check my papaerwork, but I think that's the case. I've never bothered to do it BTW.

18/11/10 03:59 AM18/11/10 03:59 AM #15 what is he trying to sell with the clay bar ?? Special clay bar tap water ???? I always have an atomizer with me with water when barring up or buffing. Some of the better buffing compounds you need to keep moist. Love the mess lol Sounds like that car was parked at the beach over night by the sound when he rubbed his hand over it. Did you see the guy on fifth gear doing details for Ferrari's and Lambo's so forth. Try 5000 pounds for one of his wash and waxes. The wax was like a hard resin. He had to play with it in his hands for ages before applying with his hands. No cloth. But when it dried on the car it was harder than the paint.
18/11/10 06:10 AM18/11/10 06:10 AM #16 if the bugs and what not have eaten through the paint protection crap then they only way to get it looking nice it to strip it off with a paint cleaner, and clay process stuff.and yes clay bars are abrasive and will swirl up your paint. some are harsh but the meguires one is pretty light from memory.if you want to reaply wax/sealent after this go for it, but if you want swirls removed your gonna have to buff them out.its just easier imo to take it to a pro detailer, or speak to ford first and see what bs they can palm you.
