just checking out the fuel figures. 13.6 to 14.2l/100kms. id say with the odd spirited drive these things will be sitting around the 17-18l/100kms, maybe more. im getting 10.3l/100kms out of my fg right now. would make a huge different to the pocket. probably worth it though.

There's no reason what so ever for such a delay if they were going to use FPV's engine!!! So this obviously points to only one other alternative!!!

The reason for the delay in implementation, I think, it staring you in the face if you look at the rocker covers on FPV's new S/C 8! ;) That's my hint and I think I might be right.

Theres no way it will be supercharged. If it were, it would be a de-tuned FPV GS motor, which would steal sales from the FPV GS, being that you could drive a new (easily re-tuned) XR8 with GS or GT power for 10 grand cheaper than the entry-level GS. It would make the GS a little pointless in the line-up being it shares the same body kit and everything. Think F6 vs XR6T... if the xr6T shared the same engine as it used to, it would steal sales from the f6.

I reckon it will be the NA Coyote, hopefully about 300kw, so there is room for them to pump up the xr6T a little more too.

I think the main problem with dropping in a NA version is that it would probably still be beaten by the turbo XR6/G6E Turbo which was the problem with the last XR8. Then if they go with the detuned Supercharged engine, it is too close to the GS.

So, their main problem is that that there is not enough of a gap in their line up between the XR6/G6E Turbo's and the GS for the XR8 to have its own price point and market.

Bringing an XR8 in the middle of the turbo's and GS will not increase sales, it will just cannibalise sales from either the turnbos or GS and increase production costs as they will have to run another car line. Every model line increases costs and is only worthwhile if for gains new sales, not takes sales from other lines.

Ah well, time will tell

If no XR8, what will ford have to sell up against SS Commodores?

MY10 SS Commodores are available new for around $11000 cheaper than a FPV GS. $44000 V $55000

Look on the road how many SS's there are so it seems like a good idea for Ford to have something

in the market to compete directly with it rather than the Cheapest V8 available from Ford /FPV

being so much more expensive.

Well, the XR6 Turbo is the natural competitor to the SS at this price point and it will smash an SS as far as performance goes... if anything, Expensive Daewoo does not have anything that can match the Ford at the Sub 50k price point. But if its the V8 rumble you are after, then no, there is a hole in the ford range at this price point but then the same issues apply as I noted in my earlier post.

V8 nuts want V8's, even thought the XRT is better in every way they will still want an XR8. Without it the SS will be even more rampant.
