If you're okay with a sedan, get the sedan - it's better in so many ways.

Ute:

- Cheaper

- Can put long objects in the tray/boot

- Light rear end - unstable handling especially in the wet

- Any ute owner who doesn't need the tray for work is a Bogan.

Sedan:

- Can carry 5 ppl

- Better front/rear weight distribution for balanced handling

- Can fold down seats for lots of room too.

- Better rear suspension

Look at it this way. If you have a ute and the mrs wants you to sell it and get a family car your farked

Now with a sedan you have family car with performance.

I know what id be doing

I have both (08 XR6T and 2010 single cab Navara) :D

Sedan is great because there are times when you need to play taxi / Desig. driver. Can fit the family / mates in a go for a drive. Playing taxi is also a PITA. Pretty straight forward really.

Utes are praticle. Well im not entirely convinced as I doubt many would buy a 50K sports ute, only to hammer the tray with crap. Mines a workhorse and you always get requests to help move stuff. That can be a PITA too. If it was your only car, you would miss the secure boot space and rear seats a lot.

NB4C summed it up nicely.

I don’t use my ute for work. Am I a bogan?

I use it for recreation. Bikes, sport, fishing etc. Love it how you can just chuck sh*t in the back and hose it down later.

I leave the missus drive the 5 seat shopping trolley around.

Plus the live axel makes it so much more fun at the drags.

Haha reading that it kinda does sound boganish. Anyway, there are downsides and upsides to both vehicles. I have the ute because there already is a 5 seater in the family. If it were my only car I would have the sedan.

Get a ute...

And a new turbo ute only cost 36 drive away...

Utes have higher trade in prices to dealers

Depreciate less assuming there keep in good condition

Wow, never been called a bogan before...

Don't use mine for work but it does get a KTM dirtbike in the back and gets packed with camping gear...

But in all seriousness... If you can't decide if you should get an ute or a sedan then you are not car worthy :)
