Took my XR6T over to Tassie for a touring holiday where I had fun racking up 1,800 k's. The car showed its great handling around the bends of Tassie - especially when put through its paces.

However, I have noticed that the brakes have faded somewhat, and the discs feel warped. Put medium pressure on the brakes and I feel a pulsating sensation as the car pulls up. It's been booked into my local dealer, who says that the discs will need machining! A bit dissapointed with this as the car has only 6,500 k's.

Has anyone else had similar problems?

that's not good enough, you should demand new rotors.

Rotors seem to run out of meat too quickly these days as it is without them machining your brakes after only 6500km due to a fault on Fords behalf. What do they think the problem is, is it with the rotors themselves or something else?

You would think they would of though ford would of got it right especially after the AU. I have the same problem with my AU at the moment, I changed all four disks at 80K and now after 3k I'm getting the same problems as you guys.

Do you have premium brakes? , I didn't order premium brakes on my XR6T and I think I might regret it.

After 3000 k's mine is still steady, but I'm concerned to hear of this problem, as I have had the problem on my AU Fairmont Ghia V8. 80000 k's with no problems, then pulsating brakes.

When I changed the rotors the problem dissapeared, but only for about 5-6000 k's then it was back again. I traded the car at 87000 k's with this problem present, and had hoped for a better braking system on the XR6T!

I agree that you should not accept machining of rotors after only 6500 k's, as this will limit your brake life, and options for later machining once the car is outside warranty!

I've just turned 3000k on my car. Been on a long trip in tight corners and no problems with my premium break package. Ford should have made the premium breaks standard on the XR6T amd XR8. I know it's a matter of costs but it is a performance car and needs performance breaks.

If anyone is ordering their car or thinking about it spend the extra $ and get premium breaks ahead of any other extras.

I'm very interested to hear the outcome of this issue but just because they are not the premium brakes hardly makes it OK for something like this to happen. No one should have to fork out an extra 3K on a 50K vehicle to avoid having your discs machined after 6500 kays.

For what it's worth, I agree the premiums should have been standard.

As mentioned before I have ordered mine with standard brakes if I start having problems with them I'm going to change them with after market rotors, I rather pay for them later on then forking out the extra cash then paying 5% stamp duty as well.

Remember once the car 50k all the extra's cost 5% more.

Ok, just got my car back from the service centre with brand new discs. The service rep had to ring through to Ford to get approval for the new discs. After he had a test drive, he was convinced they were pretty badly warped.

Anyway, feeling bit happier about the whole issue, but now wish I had gone with the premiums! Brake fading is still there.

Can anyone enlighten me on the cause of brake fading? I assume it has something to do with the pads themselves.
