Do not change the globes to the 130w or you will melt your headlight lenses and also the wiring. If you upgrade the globes to the +50% style globes you will be fine and it make a huge difference in light output.

Do you have a certain type that ou use? I rember years ago Artic Blue's were the rage.. What should I be looking for now??

Thanks for the replies guys.

I do know that any bulb fitted to the plastic light housings should have UV CUT on the packaging, otherwise the clear lens will turn milky/cloudy.

Guys DONOT use a 90w> bulb as it is considerably higher draw through the stock wiring.

55w = 4.6a

90w = 7.5a

This is much to much draw for the wiring.

As for the globes I have used, they were Phillips +50 Cool Blue. Did both cars as soon as I got them.

:crybaby:

Don't go over factory rated wattage with the globes, you're just asking for a fire. They may be OK for a while, how long is anyones guess, but it will eventually melt through the insulation in the wiring harness and best case scenario cause a permanent short that keep blowing fuses.

Been there .... done that in my '94 TX3 Turbo .... never uprating globes ever again. Not fun at 11pm in the middle of know where and the Mrs says: "Can you smell something burning?" I ended up with 2nd degree burns on my arms from trying to put the fire out in a front left headlight with a towel. Luckily I succeeded and my pride and joy was OK.

I find the light output of the factory headlight quite good, maybe you need to have your high beam adjusted up or down a little.

Cheers,

Ben

Edit: I would also check the road rules on passenger vehicles as I think you may be limited to 4 forward facing high beam lights anyway.

I did this to my BA a while back..

I remember pulling out the reflector and either swapping them over (L <> R) or rotating them (180 degrees). Too long ago to recall.

I setup a relay system to power them and used the normal high beam as the trigger for them.

Can't remember the wattage or brand of lights (Philips Blue seems to ring a bell). The user Cro was helpful on the forums. Not sure if he's around any more, I haven't been on here in a long time.

I used the same brand of globes in the standard high beam lights too.

Bottom line is that the output was awesome.
