Upgrading Compressor Cover On Fg

Hi, can anyone tell me all about upsizing the compressor cover? My tuner said I could expect a 20kw increase. It's not the compressorwheel, just the cover. Has anyone done this mod? At around $280 for the cover I think It would be a worthwile mod. As a bigger turbo would be a bit more money than I'd like to spend and if this is ok the power would b cool for me. Taking in mind I have done other mods. From what I can understand the cover/ housing is larger volume and can accomodat more air?

I would've thought that just changing the cover would make the turbo more inefficient. Would be kinda like removing the vanes in a water pump. The turbo wouldn't pump as much air due to the larger clearances from compressor wheel to housing.

If it was me I'd be doing it properly and changing the wheel as well.

I got a .7 compressor cover and upgraded the compressor wheel to the F6 spec, and a 10psi actuator. sent away today to get balanced, and hopefully back in time next week for a tune on wednesday!

Hey Cam,

Ive upgraded to the .70 front housing on my FG F6. It would have been my car that James was using as a guide. I think it is a worthwhile upgrade. In my opinion the power comes on a fraction later but with more force. Good fun in a ute.

yes, I got all the parts pretty cheap through carpenter ford. I did it through my brother in law, I think he sold some parts to you a while ago, Steve Carpenter. yeh james was saying that I can get so much power, but I dont think he remembered mine was an xr6t not an f6, so I was a bit confused on how I would be getting 370kw on standard turbo. what time has yours got down the track? I must get you to take me for a strap in your ute sometime when im down that way

Yeah, Steve is a great bloke. Typhoon Freak is now using his old GT42. Has he started building his own FG yet?

I'd say the 370 mark is a little high.

Havnt ran mine down the track yet, not very fussed to. Would be more then happy to take you for a driev in my ute. It gets a new fuel rail and another 044 pump soon. Should see around 440rwkw's out of it.

yeh I was gonna get the fuel tube too, but decided I wouldnt need it and I would just be for bragging! so I just got the 2l surge tank. nah steves gonna have a kid any day now so hes just got a stock bf f6, 2 of them actually lol

how much was the over all price for the upgrade? I was expecting it to be round 1200+?

pipework was an extremely tight squeese, the .7 front cover sits forward a fair bit compared to the standard. wish I could have it tuned so I can stomp on the go pedal! so far I can notice there will be a sweeeeet induction noise under boost without that silly noise muffler on the standard piping. thanks jamie for making me the pipe! will look great when powder coated black too!
