Should be doing other things but got searching for stats. Check this sh*t...

post-4018-126459479525_thumb.jpg

2004 is the most recent data I could find, doubt it would have changed much though.

Just in case you missed speed-related on the graph, it's right over the far side (just ahead of 'hooning')

  1. Inattention
  2. Inexperience
  3. Alcohol/drug Related
  4. Illegal Manoeuvre
  5. Fail to Give Way or Stop
  6. Rain/wet road
  7. Age (Lack of perception, power...)
  8. Driver Fatigue
  9. Speed Related - driver
  10. Dangerous Driving

For fatalities only, speed as a contributory factor accounts for 18%, behind alcohol/drugs 34%, inattention 28%, and disobeyed traffic rules 27%. So going by that they should be setting up permanent toll-booth-type scenarios for alcohol and drug testing rather than fixed speed cameras/teaching people how to actually drive/ensuring drivers actually know the road rules. That’s if these morons were serious about saving lives.

However, nowhere in the report is 'speed-related' defined, so given the inclusion of 'related' you can only assume that this includes those incidents where the driver was speeding in relation to the conditions - which could well be actually under the sign-posted limit. Speed cameras aren't going to do sweet f*ck all to stop those accidents.

Taken from here if you want some data to open your eyes.

Since we don’t have a great double lane hwy network I’d like to read the ‘export’ advice on safe overtaking without being on the wrong side of the rd for an extended time. Even when there’s an overtaking lane that maybe 2km it’s still about 10km too short if you don’t want to exceed the speed limit an get booked by an oncoming radar. And as we know as soon as you reach a overtaking lane all cars go right lane sit on 100+ and you can still end up no better off from where you started.

I think in about 1986 the fed Gov decided to duplicate the Pacific hwy from syd to Bris. They gave them close to 3.5 billion in 1989 to hurry it up a bit. The state threw in another couple of hundred mil.

The feds gave the money in the understanding that the road would be finished by 2015. They call this a M O U memorandum of understanding. Other words do it or your in the shoite.

Well there outa money and its not even 50% complete.

So as any gov would do....bend over general public... because were polies and we are not to blame.

Wait till Anna has to show her hand. We are going to have these cameras every ten k.

And still the worst roads in the country.

She would say catch a train but she's selling that.

does anyone know about the 2 new camera looking boxes on the bruce northbound just south of the Caloundra interchange. Its directly across from where the big led display screen is that shows traffic updates etc. Wouldnt think it would have anything to do with the point to point camera in the link as that from what I understand is southbound and these are on the northbound side?

Pretty sure they were put up Wednesday morning 5ly, noticed them that arvo on the way home from work..........don't think they're working yet as theres no horizontal lines on the road and no signage :stupid:

What's even better with the overtaking lanes and straight stretches of single-lane highway....is they've now become favourite spots for the mobile revenue raising life saving devices.

She would say catch a train but she's selling that.

You mean the ones that are always running late, overcrowded, and fares have just gone up by 40% (20% for smart cards)???

We're in good hands aren't we

maybe im getting old or im just over the speeding fines but its becoming pointless owning a car with any power on the street these days each time you leave the house you could return without a drivers licence without even being silly or deliberately speeding

id almost put my name for a trial of a speed limited car if the car slowed down in all speed zones and didnt just limit the car too say 120kph or something

but lets face if the goverment did ever make something that they would just move onto something else to get money out of ppl ..more parking tickets or get the cops to target drivers for other things instead

I mean we already have to pay to go fishing in nsw im unsure if its the same in other states but what a joke that is makes me so mad just thinking about it and were does all that money go I havent seen anything chance for the better with all the extra money their getting from a fishing licence any place I go fishing or better boat ramps if anything its gotten worse

at least for the time being the sea and some rivers have an open speed limit for power boats and jetskis but im sure its only a matter of time befor the sh*ty state goverment realize they f*ck us in the ass way more than they are at the moment and ruin that as well

cheers trev

Just on the water bound issue I thought u would get a laugh on this one. A couple of years ago I was cruising through the noosa river when I noticed a copper under a bridge on the concrete pilon with a radar gun!!! So its only a matter of time.

Yeh I love that one. They do it every Holidays. They caught so many people. On public and school holidays Noosa river is 8 knots from the council chambers at Tewantin to the river mouth. They put a small sign up at the boat ramp on Gympie terrace to warn you.

Even Better was the Wally sitting at a desk on the north shore with a radar gun. eF me. I'm all for safety but this is getting ridiculous.

Ps pretty sure (90%) a camera is going in on the north bound lane of the motorway about 300m up from the Coolum roundabout

I think the one at the Caloundra exit on the Bruce Highway is the point-to-point setup.

Apparently they (the new digital and point-to-point cameras) are being trialled until mid 2010, then they will be signed when they become active. According to this document in any case....

Pdf_digital_speed_red_light_cameras_factsheet_nov09.pdf

(That has miraculously disappeared of the Qld Transport website for some reason)

Anyway ladies, I've started doing a map of them so we can keep a sticky thread in here for easy reference. click here

Need further info on exact locations of most of them and the direction of travel they are targeting, so let me know if you can provide further info and I'll update it on these suckers:

- Warrego Highway, Muirlea

- Gold Coast Highway, Broadbeach

- Gold Coast Highway, Labrador

- Sunshine Motorway, Mountain Creek

- M1 Loganholme

- M1 Nudgee

- Beerburrum Point-to-point
