This software is meant for people who do not have any AV or other free AV software installed.The prime motive MS had for this software was to stop the spread of trojans and exploits on PC's that had no or out of date protection.

It's gotta make you wonder how many new virus's are being written specifically to target it though given that they are the reason ppl started targetting in the first place...
