Does Aftermarket Turbo Filter Affect Warranty?

Featured Replies

G'day all. Anyone know whether replacing the factory turbo oil line and screen with the aftermarket braided line and cartridge-type screen voids warranty in the event of turbo problems?

you would certainly hope not , but with Fraud you never know.

Hopefully someone with direct experience will be able to help further

If it ruined your engine or turbo, yes it would void it. If your boot lid flew off or your headlights fell out, then no..

as above,, you will hope not.. BUTTTT if the turbo does seize for some reason they will handball the blame back to you blaming the (oil line) so they dont have to cover the $$ or fixing it

ford blames everything on the owner, had a ford ranger td chipped and tune was running fine, psi switch in the pump fail and dump a heap of fuel in and put a hole in a piston had nothing to do with the chip they knew it, but it took a court case to prove it (it has happen to utes that have no chip)

if you want to keep your warranty I wouldn't risk it

a mechanic I know is also a mechanical engineer, he says to ask for any warranty denials in writing and if you definitely know they are bullsh!ting you, threaten them with calling the office of fair trading, NRMA etc; as you have nothing to lose.

If you had an aftermarket filter fitted with a higher micron rating than the standard unit and it failed due to something making its way past the aftermarket filter into the bearing assembly then yes, I would expect turbo and any other failure subsequent with the turbo failure to be denied warranty.

If Ford supply something as standard that filters down to, for arguments sake, 70 microns and you go and fit a screen that only filters down to 100 microns, again for argument sake, why would you expect it to be covered under warranty?

But. If you fit a screen of the same micron rating as is supplied standard.............. you may want to check with the dealer that works on your car as they are the ones who will say yay or nay.

General rule is any modification to the driveline will VOID driveline warrentee Engine-Gearbox-Diff.

It makes it harder to claim on these items.... not impossible just harder than normal.

If Fraud get upset then they can at there discression flag the whole car as Void. Although in this situation of a oil line replacement this is unlikly.

My previous BF was flaged as no Driveline warrentee (Modded intercooler tune exhaust etc) but they did cover body and electrical.

My BA before that did not get any flags even though it was modifyed with intercooler and tune.

Depends on the dealer. I know a mate who has zorst/cooler/tune/injectors/intake on his 04 ba and so far the diff was replaced twice, 2 clutches and diff bushes were all done under warranty...
