  1. Mine's an auto, and the rattle kicks in when the a/c cranks up too. Seems like a common problem. I thought it was something in the tray, but it sound like I'm wrong from what everyone is saying.
  2. Mine used to be a mongrel until I found that lowering the pump handpiece until it almost touches the bodywork allows me to hold the trigger full throttle. Its a good idea (if you try this) to back off the flow when the tank's nearly full, or it randomly blows fuel out all over the place before the auto shutoff works. Methinks the engineer who signed off on the FG ute filler design was either pissed, hungover or recently divorced. And lucky if he didn't lose his job.
  3. Thank you both for the info. Just what I was looking for.
  4. Excuse my ignorance people, but is it possible to upgrade the FG's mangy mono display to the colour one?
  5. Thanks bunna. I'll have a look and see what I can do with it.
  6. Thanks for the info, mate. I live in Adelaide. I've never had the dash out of anything but a Toyota, so I'm guessing as to how it mounts to the firewall. Need a workshop manual!
  7. Ever since it was new, my September '08 FG ute's dash has creaked when the car goes around corners. None of my previous Fords have suffered from this. It's almost like the chassis is flexing. I don't have to be getting up it, either. Moderate cornering results in the dash creaking up near the windscreen. It's not the only dash problem. There's an annoying buzz from the right side of the dash near the A-pillar. Anyone had these issues? My dealer says they can't hear the problem. Sigh.

    Sprung A Leak

Well, at 20,000 the ute's diff pinion seal is stuffed. Has started to leak rather than weep. The last time I had a pinion seal go on ANYTHING was a well-worn FJ40 Tojo. The diff is not over-full, and has had two oil changes (Penrite with additive included).
  9. In March this year Penrite issued a service bulletin regarding their ATF products. It clearly states that Sin ATF is their recommendation for ZF transmissions. If you have an FG 6sp and refer to their recommendation for that car, they not surprisingly recommend Sin ATF there as well. My gearbox is due for an oil change by my standards, and for what it's worth I'll be using Sin ATF.
  10. G'day all. Anyone know whether replacing the factory turbo oil line and screen with the aftermarket braided line and cartridge-type screen voids warranty in the event of turbo problems?
  11. No I can't really hear mine at idle, only when giving it a serve on full boost but not full throttle. You can hear it spooling up at pretty much any revs, but it's generally pretty quiet if you're just driving around, erm, legally.
  12. Mate, I've had mine since last October. I have been waffling on about my turbo being noisy too. You could hear mine under light load (low whistle), and under full boost but moderate revs it makes an obvious noise like a sort of background scream. If you floor it, the turbo is pretty quiet. This is what was found after comparing mine with a new G6T - ie basically nothing - the bearing tolerance is the same as a new one, the bit of oil in the bottom of the compressor housing is the same as the new one, the noises my turbo makes are basically the same as the new one except the G6 is said to have more sound deadening. If the compressor wheel blades have reasonable clearance from the housing they say that all is well. My compressor fan spins smoothly by hand. Having said all that, I reckon the turbo is noisier than when the car was new. But since everything, including all joints and the intercooler, checks out to be tight and leak-free, I'm happy with that. My dealer, who bends over backwards to keep customers happy, says that the sure way to know that something is wrong with the turbo is to listen to it after driving it and then shutting down the motor. If you can barely hear it, or not at all, then usually it's ok. Fresh oil, often, is the secret to petrol turbo long life, but you'd already know that. All my previous turbo experience is with Landcruiser diesels, Merc trucks, Cat and Hino gensets, and Cat loaders. None of them sound like my FG ie all were relatively quiet, especially the Japanese ones. Sorry about the book, but that's my story.
  13. I guess I am learning something too, but I'm not sure what. I had a turbo cruiser with a butterfly and it was constantly and consistently in vacuum on the overrun. My turbo FG also makes a loud whistle about halfway up the rev range under solid boost. At full boost high revs the noise almost vanishes. All the exhaust plumbing, turbo and piping fasteners are all tight and have been since new. All the the piping was removed and checked for leaks. The noise persists. Power and economy seem normal. So I'm stuck with the noise it seems, until something lets go.

    ute register

G'day all. I've been a member for a few months now. I own a white October '08 FG XR. No mods apart from factory 'upgrades'.
  15. Mate, when I ordered mine last week I was told there would be a 4 to 6 week wait.
