Guest xbcoupe Guests Posted 18/09/03 05:19 AM Share Posted 18/09/03 05:19 AM Hi all,I am so glad I found this forum as a blue blooded Ford fan :D . I have a dilemma which hopefully you can help me with. I need to tow a race car and trailer (weight around (1600kgs) plus spare wheels, jacks axle stands etc and my current car a Tribute won't cut it for grunt or space. I drove the XR6T for the first time this week and OMG - it was phenomenal.I originally was going to buy the XR8 ute for towing but I felt the torque delivery seems much later than the turbo. Going on what people have told me, you want low down torque when towing. I have nearly convinced myself that the XR6T is the better option in a ute for this job.Comments? Advice? Ideas? Guest xr6 turbo Guests Posted 18/09/03 05:26 AM Share Posted 18/09/03 05:26 AM XBcoupe,I've just sold my XRT sedan and got a XR8 sedan for that reason. I found that the XRT seems to run out of puff towing up hills but on a straight stretch of road it was more than capable. I was only towing dirt bikes which weighed in at approx 900kg. just my 2 cents worth. I have a turbo ute and I love it, but in your case I think the XR8 would be better, horses for courses type of thing. Hope this helps. I have not driven a xr8 so I can't offer any comparsion. AWW XR6T UTE Member 129 Member For: 22y 2m 1d Location: Brisbane Posted 18/09/03 07:04 AM Share Posted 18/09/03 07:04 AM I have the XR6 Turbo ute, and have a ~1300kg ski boat. With the SSS auto, use the performance mode, and without the rear view mirror you don't even realise that the boat is still there. As for running out of puff, I have never experienced that one! In my opinion the XR6T with the torque of the motor, it has to be driven while towing to be believed, no hesitation! Zeke zeke Member 792 Member For: 22y 16d Location: Adelaide Posted 18/09/03 01:08 PM Share Posted 18/09/03 01:08 PM In spite of the abundance of torque, Ford obviously discourage using the Xr6T as a tow vehicle. As far as I can see, possible reasons for this are:1. turbo durability2. engine durability3. drivetrain durability with the extra torque4. cooling issuesMy guess is that 4 is the main reason. Anyway, it's horses for courses. Mrs zeke's XT has a h/d towbar to pull her horsefloat. My T won't have a towbar fitted.zeke Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/6280-xr6t-or-xr8-ute-for-a-tow-car/#findComment-51229 Share on other sites
Guest bat Guests Posted 18/09/03 08:10 PM Share Posted 18/09/03 08:10 PM I think the 8 can tow 2300kg and you get the SOUND. Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/6280-xr6t-or-xr8-ute-for-a-tow-car/#findComment-51235 Share on other sites
