Yeah that's correct about racv and all the ima underwritten brands it just needs to be registerable, be careful though there is still alot of confusion around the new definitions at this stage.

racv has all changed your allowed mods as long as they are legal you dont have to tell them your mods whereas in the old days u did and it costed more they said u have to ask vic roads for what is legal or not and as long as they are legal everything is sweet

Yeah same as Shannons, they just say as long as its legal its fine.

Which comes back to my question, whats legal?

Reading through this link seems to suggest that basically any mod at all like tune, intercooler or injectors etc is illegal until engineered.

im pretty sure the nizpro kits are fully legal and adr approved other than that theres not really that much legal stuff out there...

My point is thought even though you have in writing that its insured, I am sure they have some underwriting that the car must be road legal. And without an engineers certificate it is not, so I am wondering what the insurance companies do when people make a claim from a major accident.

I know what youre saying but I dont think they will deny a claim because of some technicality about what is "legal". If they have approved your mods then youre fine. I think what they mean is if you have (for example) a nos set-up and you didnt tell them about it. If speed was a factor then you would probably be denied (in fact you definitely would be). It looks like most insurance companies really are relaxing their restrictions when it comes to mods.

Anyone had troubles with claims because of mods? I'm a bit worried about this issue for when I start major mods.

Best bet, just try to drive sensibly, always be aware of what's happening around you, don't get distracted by mobile, stereo, GPS etc.

And when the conditions are right (traffic, weather, road condition) give it HEAPS! That's what these cars are bought for after all
