Son-in-law asks me to take his car (04' Fairmont Ghia V8) around the block the other day to see if I can identify noise in the front end when he goes over speed humps, crossings etc....

Its definately got a clunking sound under there but I cant jack it up so he takes it to a workshop near his home to ask if they can put it on the hoist to have a look....they tell him the lower ball joint looks dry so they grease it and send him on his way.....he calls me to tell me that the noise is still there but not as noticeable now..

Two days later he hears this big crack in the front end followed by an ugly grinding sound, so he crawls to the workshop where they tell him that the lower ball joint has snapped and jammed against his brake rotor :spoton: ...WTF

The result....2 new ball joints, 2 new rotors, new pads and a bill for $850......

What I'd like to know is why the hell couldnt they have identified a potentially disasterous fault like that only two days before??

I shudder at the thought of this breaking at any sort of decent speed with my daughter and grandkids in the car as well

that's no good Reg!

You'd have question why they didn't suggest replacing the ball joints when they first saw it...

The time it took to remove the boot and attempt to regrease it they could have put a new one in. They are obviously not aware that these balljoints arent a serviceable item and are pretty common for letting go like this one has. Sometimes its better to stick with a Ford dealer as they would of replaced it straight away.

That is astounding. What I'd be more interested to know is why Ford Aus is putting inferior (probably made in China) crap parts in these cars when, like the D/Line shunt still in the FGs, they are fully aware of the issues.

What a complete joke. Shame they make such a good drivechain, but the majority of the rest of the parts in these cars, and their assembly quality are basically cheap crappy sh!t. Then when you get an issue like a clicking sound or a leaky boot, you can take it back to the TWATS 19 times and still not get a fix. WAKE UP Ford Aus YOU DICKHEADS
