as others have said, get a serive maybe to ford to check any fault codes. Then do fuel filter, plugs, coils and most important sheck for boost leaks on any and all hoses connecting the crossover, intake and throttlebody

for the rough idle and rev hunting, Remove the throttle body and give it a huge dose of Throttle body/Carby cleaner and get a cotton bud onto the sensors inside too.... its practically a new car once cleaned!

The throttle bodies on these cars are VERY sensitive to build up.

I'm having a few of these funny issues myself. Namely, the intermittent strong/weak boost, and the funny surge when cold.

I'll be watching this thread with interest.

I'm going to have my car serviced soon, but I'll be doing fuel filter, plugs, coils, throttle body/boost solenoid clean as well, so we'll see how that goes. Also doing oil filter and putting new coolant through.

Won't be for probably a month yet though...

Wow, I must be a sucker for punishment.

Headed out to the garage until 2am and worked through cleaning throttle body and retightening all boost hoses.

Result....surge gone when cold, rough idle now smooth idle.

I was pretty stuffed when I finished so didnt test drive till thismorning on the way to work but just the very simple work that was done last night has transformed the whole car.

Kudos to all for the tips and various tutorials on "how to" this has no doubt saved me a truckload of cash.

I'm on the hunt now for a factory air box so I can get rid of the pod. Once that is done it is just the brakes to worry about and it'll be good to go.

with the brakes - think about doing front wheel bearings at the same time - I have replaced rotors and pads and still have a little bit of shudder turns out it is the wheel bearings

Hi there - I am also in Wellington NZ. Welcome.

If you are not in a rush I will have a standard airbox with F6 Cold Air Intake available in a month or two (when all mods are installed).

Potentially I have a good set of standard front rotors, pads and calipers available as well - as I am installing some big AP 6 pots.

Good to hear your car is working well after maintenance.

Hey cheers for that. More than happy to wait a little for the airbox and CAI so if you are happy to sell it I'm keen.

I'm not entirely certain where I am going with brakes yet. General consensus seems to be that DBA4000 series should be ok with good pads & fluid. The current pads have heaps of meat on them but even with mildly spirited driving over the Rimutakas managed to fade pretty badly.

What they are is anyones guess but they aren't stayin

As for maintenance.....I would not have believed that such simple stuff could make a difference that dramatic. The huge power increase back to where it should have been is really secondary to the fact that it now goes like a good late model car should......no fuss, no drama, just drive. Awesome.

Are there many other enthusiasts in the Wgtn region?

Really pleased for you that the car is now running well again. Looks like I need to set a day aside and go out and fix it.

What did you do to the car exactly?

I'm assuming;

Throttle body clean, boost solenoid, clean X-over pipes, Tighten Turbo bolts/Tighten boost hoses. (Is the turbo bolt/boost hose one hard to do? I've never tried that before)
