May 21, 200917 yr #1 ive heard alot about these flash tuners and have looked them up..however what I read isnt really much help. can anyone give a break down simple version of a flash tuner. Ive got a standard BA so will this just be a pointless task? and for the programs what happens there?? Must sound like bit of a dumb question but I have no idea about these tuner boxes so if anyone could give me a break down on it all it would be greatly appreciated
May 21, 200917 yr #2 your tuner box, will hold your 3 tunes, high boost, low boost and valet tune, when u purchase the flash box, it will come with the 3 generic tunes which is standard tunes, but to get the full potential of the software you take the box to your tuner, and he will custom make u 3 tunes suited to your car, you just plug the box in, choose what tune u wish to run and will download the data onto your car and away you go.. what information are you looking for specificly?
May 21, 200917 yr #3 Author easy as that huh nice I guess the only down side is that I have to select which setting I want before I start my car and not while driving or whatever right? This box wouldnt be a waste of money for a standard engine right? I do want to add mods but if this will give me that bit more power now that would be awesome
May 21, 200917 yr #4 yes, well probably just go with a generic tune and then do a dyno run to check AFRs to make sure its not leaning out. However, to do it properly a good 10psi custom tune is worthwhile on an otherwise standard car and far better than loading a cheaper generic. bear in mind also that there are other means to tune that dont involve Flash tuners, such as HP Tuners.
May 21, 200917 yr #5 yeh, but y wud u want to change the setting while driving? only takes less then 5 mins to swap over. but yeh, just got for a custom tune, should gain around 40rwkw from just a custom tune with no following mods.
May 21, 200917 yr #6 Author the reason I want to change while driving is for say if I am following a car on open road id want to have the boost right up and not have it low. So if before I leave my home to go away somewhere I use the flash box to tune in a "fuel saving" or low boost program that's all good until I find myself behind a 90 year old women driving a suzuki swift. Id want high boost to pass her because she probably has like 100 cars behind her. But I have been thinking lately because mines auto you have a drive setting and a performance setting do you think the tune box would be able to program both of those? so I could have a high boost performance mode and a low boost normal drive mode?? Or would I have to go with the flash box and boost controller? (which ive heard the computers in the BA dont really work well with)
May 26, 200917 yr #8 You dont need a tuned XR6T to pass a Swift lol, but ive read that you can get piggy back systems which will have a "high boost" tune in it and because its essentially intercepting data to and from the ECU you can have a switch in your cabin to change from the tune to factory. I forgot who does it but, a big tuning house in Sydney does it.
May 26, 200917 yr #9 I have 370rwkw+ and drive that tune only. I get around 8.9 L/100km on the freeway and boot it when I need it. Simple really. You dont need two tunes unless your scared someone else will drive it.

Simple really. You dont need two tunes unless your scared someone else will drive it.Your are right. A generic tune is a " one size fits all" solution, neither too economic nor powerful. A good tune done by a professional tune house will be suited to your car and give both economy and power when required
