Lack Of Boost Down Low

Hey Guys,

Having a problem with boost at low rev range. I dont feel the turbo start to kick in till abou 5K, its like driving a na xr6 till then. Im thinking it may be a wastegate problem but im not much of a techy with turbos as this is the first one ive owned. Any ideas would be great,

Have you done the Boost Solinoid Maintenance ?

It would help if you give us more of an idea as to KM traveled, is it stock, have you done anything that may have caused it, etc ?

yep sounds like a wastegate problem to me. Either the actuator is stuffed or the flap is being held open thru a dodgy weld within the housing. Heard of it a few times now including my own issue 12months back.

On the dyno it would be like this

Yeah, Its all stock, just clicked over 105km. Will look at some mods later this year. I have checked for any airleaks but all looks good.

try that, and maybe try tightening up the bolts on the turbo itself.

check that the actuator shaft is connected to the turbo.the clip that holds it on is crap.get a long screwdriver etc and see if you can move the shaft around.obviously if its connected it will stay put.happened to me and I could still hear the turbo spool at upper revs but was only getting 2psi lol.definately sounds actuator related.a boost gauge would help you with diagnosis as well.

Sounds like the problem I had. "Boost Solenoid"

Do the boost solenoid maintenance which literally takes 5 minutes and costs a small amount of WD40 :-)

A big tip is to be quite liberal with the WD40 in the solenoid and up the pipe, reconnect and let it sit for about 15 mins.

If you do this and it solves the problem you will know as soon as you take off, even if this is slowly!

Done the solenoid maintenance with no change. Just had a look at the actuator shaft, it moves from side to side very easily so I am guessing that it is the clip. Where can you get the clip from? and also do you have to take the turbo off to insert the new clip?

Could be a lack of fuel pressure due to a blocked fuel line/filter?

When I replaced my intank pump the first time I used normal fuel hose and when it degraded quickly it had a split in it losing nearly all fuel pressure so the car would not boost until high rpm let alone it was running lean as.

Just a thought also.

my turbo was out to do it.as you can see.

although this isnt a gt3540 it shows you the way the actuator is connected.

simply a hole in the end of the actuator shaft that slips over a pin

on the wastegate.probably a circlip on ours.id drill a 1/8 hole

through the wastegate pin if I doesnt already have one and fit

a washer and split pin.grease the pin before you reconnect.
