Smb Cat

G day all

I have come accross this SMB cat, has any one had any experiance with them, do they work on our ''T's'' ???

From the info on their web site,( www.smb.net.au/ ) they seem to have very good flow rates 437cfm for a 4inch.

I recently had my car tuned but the cat that I baught off e-bay and had fitted a few months ago was crap, it didnt allow enough flow to get the anticipated power the crap cat was the big zorst blockage. It ( the cat ) was supposed to be a 200cpsi high flow cat, what a crock.

Any way we live and learn. So I have talked to a few zorst guys but hav'nt been able to speak to any body who has actual experiance with these smb cats on our cars, they seem to be very popular on rice burners and all the numbers look good. They are a bit pricey at $450. But for a good product its worth it.

Cheers DG

Don't do it!

I've had one and it lasted 12 months before it collapsed. Every other person I know that's used one has had the same problem.

Not to mention they're massively over priced!

I think a few boys from this side of the country use them, I know that dirty32 has one in his car along with the full smb exhaust system don't think he has any problems with his.

I was looking at putting one of these on my car when I have the exhaust sorted out

437cfm isn't much for a 4" cat mate...I'm pretty sure the stock one flows around 500.

Better than SMB you reckon? Xtreme use SMB cats

I have the 5" cat on my Phoon along with their full 4" system & it flows fine for 400+rwkw mate. The old style cats used to be prone to collapsing because they had no support to hold the biscuit in place, now they have a metal rod running through the centre to stop any distortion/twisting/dislodging. Saying that though, I had an old style SMB 4" on my BA for 3 years + and it never gave me any problems. That was running ~340rwkw just for your info

Good luck champ

As turboknapp mentioned, Im running the 4" SMB cat with the rest of the 4" system.

So far so good, no problems as yet (touch wood) and im running 345rwkw through mine!

As also mentioned though, the newer cats have been revised to prevent collapsing, twisting and distortion of the core of the cat, so if mine does decide to let go, ill just upgrade to the new 5"!
