Alarm

Hi all, heading for london tonight for 4 weeks and after killing my drycell last month by not disconnecting it, this time I have. Now the car is sitting in the shed with the main battery disconnected and the back up alarm bleating away. Question is, does the back up run off a seperate battery, and if it goes flat is it cheap and easy to replace. Problem is that you can't lock the doors after you disconnect the main battery, so this seems like yet another peice of amazing Ford after thought design to me. Any help would be appreciated.

Mate, not 100% sure on the factory alarms design, however I believe typically the alarm will die out, and when you return if you hook the car battery back up, it should recharge the alarm battery. Normally the alarm battery is built into either the siren box or the control box, depending on the type of setup it is. I haven't played with the factory alarm so not 100$ sure...

As for locking the doors, I think you can actually manually lock all the doors from inside the car (except the drivers), then once you get out, use your key and it should lock the drivers door...

The reason they are designed to not lock is as they are power assisted locks and it is part of the safety mech I believe, in case of a crash etc... Again not 100% sure, but I believe this is the story behind it...

Sub Jimbo, about 6 below apparently, gotta go to switzerland to, apparently its been getting down to 8 10 below there. At least I get to hurtle around in the UKs companies R8s and Astons, they are affordable over there, just gotta hope the snow buggers off.

Hey Smicky, just arrived in London (and its warmed up to 6 degrees thank god). I will let you know when I get back to Aus and dust the cobwebs off and hook the drycell back up.

hey just a question when you hooked the battery back up and started it did the alarm go off while the engine was running? mine did! but havent had any problems since!
