Its time for a new second car and I like the Golf Gti for its performace and practicality, but without posing the question on here I wont buy just yet.

So far a 5 door model in blue is the go. Unsure of the DSG option as yet. Any other options im forgetting that are a must. Sunroof is expensive and I cant say id use too often, mostly as I would forget it was there.

Going for $39,990 drive away this month.

And no chance for an R32.

The GTI is an awesome little car. I have alwas liked the look of them. If I were you, I would drive one with DSG and then a manual back to back to work out which way to go there. DSG is supposed to be the ducks guts, but then so is the ZF in the XRTs, yet I still ended up buying the 6SP manual.

As for other options, that's all up to your own personal taste and budget.

Post up pics when you get it!

Mate, da gurly and I went all over the place, looking and testing and playing with heaps of 'hot hatches' and small to med sized... The Golf was one of...

In the end the Golf was in the top 3 out of about 15 cars, but ended up just having something we both agreed was missing... not to mention the steering was really bad... very little or no road feedback... Some may like but its wasnt for us, so we agreed the XR5 just topped off the VW... Our old next door neighbors bought the VW a month earlier, and said they were very happy... IMO the XR5 is a better package and better bang for buck as well... and there isnt many XR5 running around either!

If you havent already - check out the XR5 and see how you go... you should be able to find that $$$ wont be an issue, they will both come in very close... But either way Im sure you will be very happy with the VW as well...

ps. the XR5 has more poke and its the same weight... heheheh

(btw- I heard a roomer that the R32 is going to be fazed out and a R52 or 53 or something is being toyed with... was a while ago I hear this, but imagine a 5lt in that hatch) DOG MAD!!!

DSG - meant to be a nice box, if you want the DSG get it... Just ask urself how your going to drive this thing... as a cruiser, or 'spirited' driving - within the law and speed limits of course! hehehe

Yes there isnt to be anymore R32's as of 2008. R50 is already available in the 4wd Toureg and R36 like Cro's got. Though a BF Phoon may go for 35k, whats the point when we already got a T. Its time for a hot hatch for a different type of fun.

Well said IB... Im right there with you, WELL SAID!

Sorry Robbo, when you have both sitting there its great to have a choice of which to drive when you wake up in the morning... just for the hell of it!

Beast, or Hot Hatch... which is going to get us to the shops today? (50mts down the road)

As most know and you (IB) have seen for yourself, we have the Beast - F6, and a HOT Hatch - XR5 LV, next is a average run around Audi A4 (2nd hand of something like, if anyone have one for sub 10k pls pm me), then the Aston Martin in 2010 (with some luck)! :eyebrows:

All different rides, for all different moods!

Great Idea IB... but still would like to see you check out the XR5 if you havent already!

Can you get it on a lease arrangement? Would be nice to get someone else to pay for services.

My sisters got the TDi version, and the services are dear as poison.......
