I currently have a 04 BA XR6 Turbo manual. I am having a issue with the gear box where slowing down from 3rd to 2nd u would get the odd crunch and grind to get the dam thing in gear.... as well not to mention if you do get it in gear it some times slips out but you are only presented with this issue if you are slowing down with gears. I am currently going around getting quotes for repairs valued at about apx $2000 to have this problem fixed up so I thought I might chuck up the idea of getting a better gear box capable of more HP. Would anyone have any recomandations as to weather I should get a new gear box and what is a good manufacture or just stay with the current one and have it reconditioned.

Thanks guys

Mate the T5 (your gearbox) are the worst that came in the Turbos, there is a T56 which is the 6 speed (1,000,000 times better) on here for sale for 2,500 I think. That's where I'd be looking.

Hey mate, :spoton: to the Forum

Your 5spd is a time bomb. They aren't very strong and if you plan to squeeze more power out of your car, the T5 won't last too long before needing a rebuild again.

Look into getting a T56 six speed that came in the later BA Mark2 and BF series XR6Ts. Pretty sure there is one for sale on the forum for a reasonable price

Edit: What he said^^^ :3gears:

T56 FTW.

I did this about 2 months ago. Might cost a bucket but I know that I will never have to worry about it giving way.

I got mine through Mal Wood. A recondition and blueprinted box set me back around $4,500 but that was with all the quality extras incl, braided lines, Quick Shifter etc.

Hey guys thanks sooo much for the support it sounds like this T56 Gear box is a real goooer any estimate on how much it should cost to fit the thing? as well should a new clutch be put in place? and any other accessories.

Depends on how much power you plan to run. Malwood T56 with there option 3 clutch is pretty popular combo and highly recommended by many on the forums.

Best giving Malwood.

I had a mate fit mine for $300. The Mal Wood boxes are pretty straight forward so most places should be able to do it in half a day.
