Beginner Breaks Into 11's

Just thought id write a little progress report on my 1/4 mile efforts up to this point. I took the car out a couple of weeks ago for the first time since I started modding it (mods list in sig) & only managed a 12.6 with a 2.2 60ft & about 116mph. problem being I was only running a aps fuel pump to support the whole system & I was getting a massive case of surge so I had to call it quits at that. I was also suffering from bad wheel spin from not getting stuck into the burnouts enough. all in all I was disappointed with the car & myself. to rectify the problem I had a 044 pump with a P/W surge tank fitted.

Long story short I went for another 2.5hr trip to the track yesterday & gave it another run with more mixed results. the tank & pump worked a treat no more surge. last night up this way was warm & the track was not to bad but not great but nothin to complain about. I lit a fire under the tyres & rectified the traction prob I was havin but without a boost gauge I was unsure of how much boost I was building up off the line. I was very tentative loading it up & I could only manage a 60ftr between 2.2 & 2.3 was pitiful. takin that out of the equasion im still happy because even with the bloody shockin launches it still managed to pull off a 11.8, 2.2 60ft @ 125mp. ive taken out of it that with a descent launch (1.8 would be nice) could see a good time with more to come after the new plenum & retune are done sometime this month.

was only my 3rd time ever down a track & the 2nd time since its been modded (first without issues). I have alot to learn about racin & the car but not a bad place to work from. im spoilt to start with such a great car.

Nice work mate... I cant even get into the 12s... how much power you got?

I am also in a manual... LOL I am running 335rwkw, but I am going to detune it till I get a Mal Woods option 3.

Good job mate, I'm sure there'll be a few tenths in there with a bit of practice & a better launch :spoton:

Worm, you'll always struggle to break into the twelves with a T56 & street tyres at those power levels in a sedan. Best bet is to bolt some MT's up & pray you don't over do it on the launch to lunch your cv's!

its a zf6spd auto & at this point its got 375rwkw. the cars got potential I just need some practice & a boost gauge should make it pretty idiot proof. I should of waited til I got the gauge but wanted to see if the surge issue had been fixed with the new pump & surge tank. was also usin it as abit of comparison to when I get the plenum. I know I wont be patient enough to have it sittin at home & wait til I go down the track then fit it so I just got it out of the way. I figured it would run around there all goin well (because of my lack of racin experience & gettin use to the car) but I was surprised & happy at the mph & how comfortably it did it even with it boggin down as bad as it was.

it looks stocker than stock & alot of people commented & had a yarn after my first couple of runs. was even better when I told them I was completely stuffin up my launches & had some more toys comin for it. I think I could get addicted to it. what a rush.

Yeah mate... I took off in first, changed to second and nothing... Was just slipping... So I turned off the gas... :-)

I did enjoy it though... Was my first time ever at Calder drags... Only ever been to illegal drags when I was younger...

The time when I rolled through for the 18 was when I had waited 30 mins for them to clean the track. I was frigging steaming sitting in the car... Probably around 40degrees+, which I am not used to since winter just ended... And they kept telling me 2 mins, so I put my helmet back on etc... The good thing is they are very professional and look after safety...

Hopefully I should get my time right down when I get my 60 foot around 2 seconds... A 3 second 60 foot and 13.9 pass isn't that bad... LOL I just need a clutch that grabs... Then slicks!!! Then probably new CVs... NEVER ENDS

What was the grip like?

Yeah... was really good on the first run, but I ran on completely cold tyres... Didn't want to rip a patch cause of clutch... And of course I pulled a drag next to a 10 second car!!!

Second run I dunno... Everything going everywhere with clutch slipping... LOL Seems to be a good setup though...

that's good work qik1! Your car is obviously making the power, once you get that 60 down with some M/Ts you will be knocking on the door of 10's

Turboworm - Start budgeting for a supply of clutches if you want to make the drag thing a habit, its addictive and has a healthy appetite for driveline parts!

im usin 275 mt's, traction wasnt the prob this time. ive got the mod done with my tune that allows me to leave the line on boost by simply stalling up in first but I dont have a boost gauge so I was being gentle because I wasnt sure how much I was punchin through. was bein a soft c*&k. after talkin to the tuner afterwards he said I was probably only leavin on about 2psi or there abouts. I was losin alot of time. it felt sluggish until I hit boost & then gooone!!! the boys even said my starts were funny the car just rolled off the line & then all of a sudden front lifts up & then its really scoots. was givin most cars a 3sec lead off & was catchin them before I was 2/3 down the track. I guess a teaspoon of concrete was needed.
