With the transmission locked in this manner, the engine can be accelerated to a certain RPM in preparation for launch and the racer doesn't need to worry about the car creeping forward. A split second before the green light illuminates on the Tree the transbrake is released (either automatically by a delay box or manually by the driver) and the car launches forward, its engine already at the beginning of its powerband and the transmission is already in gear. ETM Member 1,194 Member For: 18y 3m 20d Gender: Male Location: syd south Posted 21/08/08 04:43 AM Author Share Posted 21/08/08 04:43 AM Exact power levels are unknown to a degree as when it was dyno'd it actually had severe air leaks but it turned over 385rwkw, when I fixed the leaks it felt so much stronger on the road.I ran 2mph faster than markvan did and he was dyno'd at 414rwkw on the cv dyno so that gives an idea of what the actual power figure is. I managed to get out there late last night for a look and saw the run. Like you said, from the stands the run looked like a walk in the park. The launch was very sedate and the car didn't sound like it was working very hard to get to the finish line. It looked like a nice straight run.I agree with the footbrake vs transbrake aruement that the footbrake is quicker, easier to control and no where near as harsh as the transbrake. Should be interesting to see how she goes once you have the transbrake launch sorted out !!
