Bosch 044 Very Noisy In Cabin

They are ridiculous loud those pumps. I went to a funeral a few weeks back and there was a whole series of cars driving slowly. When we all parked, someone that was about 3 cars in front of me said what the F**k is that in your car buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz buzzzzzz buzzzz buzzz.

My car used to buzz on a cold startup in the middle of winter so I dont think that cold/hot fuel has anything to do with the noise.

My Mrs after that day would not get in that car again, too noisy for her. I had to sell it, no bull. Car is sold as she refused to use it or drive it. Car was mint condition, beautiful car and I had to sell it. Doesnt matter where that pump is mounted, people would hear it a block away and there is nowhere in that car you can hide from it. Im not doubting the effectiveness of the pump but the noise is almost untolerable.

It is very intrusive, not too bad for lovers of XR6T but anyone else, its way way way over the top.

Next XR (FG) no 044 is going on that.

I have used these pumps in various cars over the last 10 yrs. On my turbo tory the 044 is mounted under the passenger door just in front of the diff. I have put rubber mounts on it and its relatively quiet on a normal day. BTW I dont recirculate fuel back to the surge tank, the fuel goes back directly to the tank. This has been one of the biggest factors in keeping it quiet. But involves a bit more work doing it this way

But on hot days these pumps have a mind of their own. You have hot road, hot car,hot fuel, hot everything and these pumps just start making wierd irregular noises.

It doesnt matter how much you rubber mount the pumps, if the return fuel line is plumbed back into the surge tank then it gets too hot then the noise comes.

If you want to persist in using a PW setup, IMO you would be better looking at installing another brand of pump and forget using the 044.

On my other car I just mount the 044 intank and in the pump is quiet as.

guess you should have been warned how noisey they'll be.

Between the walbro up pump and dual 044s mine sounds like a mini refinery from the boot. Best would be to make an enclosure for them with some dynamat insulation.

that setup is in one of my wrx's

also runs two sti motorsport fuel pumps, one in the tank and one in the racecell

between the straight cut gears of the holinger and the stripped out raceshell, u can't even hear the fuel-pumps, so that's the secret, just drown the noise out with something else.
