this is gonna be a good one - I have 6spd man. and I love it, I always say that if I bought my car soley for drag racing, then I would've bought the auto

Same here for me.

The manual is a ball to drive which is why I bought a 6SP manual. The auto just doesnt do it for me. I did test drive a 6sp auto xr6t twice before I purchased, just to make sure! It is an impressive box but doesnt have what the manual has in regard to driver involvement and smile factor.

Perhaps if I lived in an area with lots of stop/start traffic and I also had drag racing high up on my list of things to do with my car, the auto would be a better choice. But these things aren't an issue for me.

I love my manual no doubt and having a Mal Woods in my car I am very confident of what I can do to it haha

But these days I only use my car to get to and from work so it can be a bit of a pig. I will ALWAYS own a manual car but I think in the future that will be left for my track/drag car as stop start traffic in a 550hp taxi can be a bit annoying.

drags/racing - auto

fun and a torque monster - manual

if I had my time over id go a manual

I could be wrong but isn't the ZF capable of handling more torque and that the manual transmission is the weak link in the Fords (as well as the clutch)?

Or do you mean the power delivery feels different? I have found the ZF has non-stop boost (when it comes onto boost) but my dads 6 spd manual has lag between changes etc

Up until the T56 I would have agreed with you about the manual tranny being Fords weak link. The T56 is the exception to the rule I reckon. Maybe I'm wrong, but this box is built to handle pretty big numbers.

And you are right about the stock clutch, which is why anyone who has modded their manual usually has an aftermarket clutch fitted.

As for lag between gears, it depends on how you drive, your shift points, shift speed, whether or not you are flat shifting. Unless you are trying real hard, the car does fall off boost between gears. This can be got around a little bit with the right technique.

Of course as an auto driver, you are yet to work that out in your dads manual! :surrenderwave::tonguepoke:

I am normally a manual die hard, but the ZF sold me for auto in the T.

For me it depends on the car. If it was a WRX or EVO, etc, It'd be manual all the way, but the Falcon is a barge, made for cruising, so ZF was the go. Also, I hate how slow the manual Falcons are to change. My 79 RX7 had a better shift.

The 4 speed autos were crap and so were the 5 speed manuals in the XRs. The 6 speed manual is much better than both, the ZF better again.

If the T wasn't my every day driver I'd probably go manual though.
