Do 20 Inch Wheels Increase/decrease Performance?

That can't be taken into account straughsberry.

They are a control tyre under the blueprint rules with different suspension, different rubber on (mostly) super smooth tracks.

And if you want to know, Formula 1 use 13" dia wheels!!!

If you put 19's with 35 profile on it doesn't change the rolling diamiter much. However as mentioned when I went from the 17" lightish wheels to 19" ultra heavies lost a lot of acceleration due to weight. Standing start was the most affected area.

you certainly wont gain any performance going to 20's. Most are crap, good ones - ie. Japanese ones cost a bomb. Unsprung weight increase has a big negative effect on handling / braking and to a lesser extent acceleration. Tyre choice very limited for serious performance tyres, and the good ones cost a fortune.

I was actually referring to my Brother's car's (Honda Integra & Nissan 200SX).

When the 20's have gone on, performance seemed to suffer big time.

In the XR, going from the 17's to the 22's on the back, it take's off heap's slower (feel's like it anyway), but once you get moving it's pretty much the same.

Not sure about the science of diff ratios etc, but ofcourse the aim is to keep the rolling diameter of the rubber the same size...

I just thought id mention, I recently got a flat tyre, and took my stock 17inch rim off and noticed it weighed a bloody ton... jumped on the scale and found that the rim and tyre combo deflated weighs in at 25kg... I thought itd be better performance to get some light rims so I scored some 18inch lightweight enkeis...

In my research into wheels I read somewhere that any rim over 18inch has less rubber on the road as it increases in diameter... not sure if theres any factual support for that one.. but it makes sense in theory.. also most racers go with 17 or 18inch wheels..

If you have to get 20s get some japanese ones... they weigh in at about 6 kilos and have pretty blingy designs..

My 19's are actually lighter then stock 17's

But then again that's why you pay top dollar for them
