Fg --> Ba New Component Compatibility

Featured Replies

#1

Anyone willing to take a guess at the possible compatability between the new FG component set and the current BA Turbo fleet?

There are weight, balance and flow improvements to be made.

Composite Plenum - manifold?

IC?

Dump Pipe?

Crossover?

Semi Active Muffler (V8?)

aa

intereting topic AA, I can prety well say the current aftermarket plenums won't work, because there is a new intake manifold and fuel rail design.

Dump pipes should work, but we won't be able to tell until the cars are up close and personal.

I think the aftermarket guys should be able to develop their coolers pretty easily due to the in/out nature of the new cooler and pipework

anyone else??

I would say the Plenum and Xover would fit no problem but I would say it would require custom piping to the intercooler

#4

all of the current plenums available are top only from what I know, the new engines have a plastic composite intake manifold with a new adjustable component, take a look on Carpoint.com.au they have all the engine info with pictures of the new manifolds

*Edit* sorry, I thought aa was talking about current BA/F aftermarket components being compatible with the FG *Edit*

So I wonder because parts will be different whether the BA/BF aftermarket goodies will now be forgotten making it harder to get people to work on these cars. Hope not as I have only had mine since Friday! That was the biggest problem with my EL XR8 nobody really did any work on them anymore and workshops were really not interested. I wonder whether the wheel offset will be different? That was also a pain in the arse with the whole preAU thing. Hopefully there wont be a PreFG set of mags now.

all of the FPV cars had bf wheels on them, so I would say the offset is the same

The aftermarket game will still be alive and well for the BA/BF. Don't worry about that.

I'm sure parts will be around for a long time to come and easy to get

Just look at the early commodores. Parts galore still

that's true.

Be interesting to see what can be done with the new car.

I'm hoping the turbo isnt smaller as this will reduce high power mods... there was talk of a smaller exhaust wheel/housing combo for quicker response/spool and it seems the norm with turbo car manufacturers to reduce the turbo to pickup low down power

From the pics Ive seen these cars will be/could be alot more responsive with the new piping layouts... hopefully top end isnt sacrificed.

New pistons will be good... but are the rods stronger?

From the indicated torque, 400 odd @ 1250rpm (?) they may have beefed up the rods too.

Plastic plenums can be a great thing, reduced inlet temps, smoother internal flow ( no nasty castings ).

The intake piping looks juicy and should flow very well... pitty it still goes over the motor, but I supose a battery swap is out of the question for the assembly line.

Its looking good to me
