The whine problem doesn't break anything. They're just noisey.

I can't remember hearing of someone actually breaking a ute diff.

Check this one out, I recently had a Tornado in for a diff repair and after some very abusive driving and chronic axle tramp the diff centre twisted the axle tubes and subsequently wrecked the tailshaft.

Lets see who has a story to top this... My BA2 F6 managed to get thru 9 (nine) diffs, all with different degees of whine/backlash before I gave up and traded it in for our TTG... so far the only warranty claim is for a crooked Turbo badge and some interior plastics that have a poor fit. And also a couple of tailshafts and centre bearing and carrier. No, I didnt even get to give the girl a real belting as I was probably correctly afraid of a "driver abuse" failure. Apart from those problems, damn fine drive. Only did 35k..
