So the car in question could quite easily be detonating at 11:3 AFR is the spark calibration is incorrect. This is why we have an absolute no generic tune policy. They are fraught with danger and you only need one in ten that causes a problem and harms an engine for this style on tune not to be worth the risk.

My advise would be to flash the standard factory tune back in and leave it in there until you can get it properly tuned.

Over 500+ Generic flash tuners sent out across aust with only 3 returns and none with timing issues,im not saying it cant happen but with have very safe timing figures in the box

Thanks for the concern but we have plenty of happy generic tuned customers with independant dyno runs to prove this

As mentioned this car might have a fuel problem or another issue if its something we need to recitfy we are more than happy to help

Unfortunely normally operating mixtures lets say between 10:1 and 15:1 will not cure engine detonation. In both our training seminar and our public open day tuning session, people are always amazed by the fact that a rich mixture will not eliminate detonation if the spark advance is incorrect.

Able to give me any more info on this training seminar or public open tuning session you speak of? Never been aware that you had something like this and interests me quite a lot.

Thanks

<snip>

Remember when an engine detonates cylinder pressures can double that of when the engine has correct combustion. With the cylinder pressure to these levels, BA connecting rods tend to leave the building.

My advise would be to flash the standard factory tune back in and leave it in there until you can get it properly tuned.

When I bent a rod or two in my BA, I had the generic 10psi tune in for about 30 mins. I heard no sign of pinging (doesn't mean it wasn't occurring). When the engine backfired at 4500 rpm under WOT, the result was 2 bent conrods and $5100 (put in some goodies while I was at it). In the post destroyed engine de-briefing, we also discovered the probability of an incorrect crank line bore, which may have well contributed. But in the end, the generic was the catalyst.

So, you do the math mate.

I will post the out come of what ever I decide to do with the ute in the near future but for now will just have to wait a bit longer.

Aint tuning fun.
