Engine Pinging On Boost

Featured Replies

As the title says- I think it is the plugs just wanted to make sure. I have the 8 Psi tune in and when it comes on boost I swear I could hear pinging. Just changing out the plugs now with NGK BKR6E-11 as the flasher instructions had said. I pulled out No1 plug and the gap is about .85 will gap the new ones at .80 and see what happens or could there be something else causing it.

get it on a dyno ASAP mate, just to be sure, plugs can help, but if it hasn't been custom tuned, its a bloody good idea to get it checked, a dyno run is alot cheaper than an engine!

generic or custom tunes?

hate to say it but send the box back again if you here any pining get em to take a little timing out of it

are you using 98 fuel you need to with these tunes

Mate I reccommend using the Ford factory spark plugs(AGSP22Z11) gapped to no more than 0.80mm

Are you using 98ron fuel?

Do you have a boost gauge??

Is the car completly std??

The ford plugs that are - were in it are AGSP 22YE09 and the gap varied from .85 to .95

Using vortex- 95 ron I think yes have the boost gauge and that is reading around 8 backed off as soon as I heard the pinging.

And standard aprt from pod filter which is sectioned off from the engine bay with the original CAI and the phoon CAI both flowing into the space with the pod.

Should I go and re gap the plugs that came out of it or continue with the NKG. only have to put in No6

depends on how long the plugs have been there, never a bad thing to change plugs, just make sure they are gapped right - and use 98 octane if you can, otherwise you'll have to get it tuned to the 95 stuff

Bugger just filled the ute up too.

Plugs should only be about 12500 old.

So 95 no good then I take it :spoton: Can I throw a couple of bottles of octane booster in it or wait untill I need to fill it up again.

Tassie sucks for finding a tuner for a capa flash box. Either don't do it or haven't heard of it.
