Here's a surprise, I got. I was in a vehicle patrol in Dili, (East Timor's Capital City), and what should be there, amongst the donkeys and the venga buses, but a new BA Falcon XT. Although it's not the sexy little number sporting the 5 little letters we've grown to love, it does suggest that in the near future, Ford Australia, having very close relations with ET, will start importing, when the country get's back on it's feet.

I think the BA is a world class car and would sell well overseas but Ford don't want to damage local Australasian sales. As previously stated Ford are selling practically every Falcon they make now (with waiting lists for XR & FPV vehicles) so unless they up the production there's no reason to sell overseas. Also, I don't think Ford (Aus) have as much support from Ford (USA) as perhaps GMH has with GM. Ford (USA) aren't travelling that well at the moment, having nearly gone bankrupt in the not to distant past so they probably can't afford to offer the same level of financial support to Ford Aus as GM offer to GMH.

Wont be a big market though. The paved roads stop just outside Dili dont they ?

I would say there is definately a market out there if they can make them LHD, in europe. Obviously a market in US, and a market in the UK. The germans seem to really like the look of the BA cars.

BA could be sold in almost any market. However it does not appear financially viable at the moment. Germany would be a extremely tough market to get into, but I belive it is possible to make a niche market there.

If you could get them into the UK market then you cold sell them anywaher in Europe 'cause of the EU. Many UK folks now drive LH drive cars 'cause they are so cheap. there is a roaring trade by brokers across Europe doing deals on cheap cars sourced from EU countries with lower taxes etc.

Business opportunity anyone?

The BA is in New Zealand and heading to South Africa, probably when the bugs are fixed.
