Hey Adam,

I was wondering how the VisionTac GPS reciever is going? I was thinking about buying one myself , It looks like a good solid little unit :) Also, Where does it get power from? Did you hook it up to the cars Cigarette Lighter?

Thanks in advance

Jimbo

It's going well.

It comes with a variety of power options. From USB, cigarette lighter, internal battery or external battery. Has a 240V charger aswell.

I just charge the internal battery and put in in the cup holder or under the ICC.

Orsm set up Adam.

Wish you where local SE QLD as would pay you to hook up my car.

looking at Asus Eee Pc notebook to use.

Only problem is it has not DVD drive. I have a mini 120g HD which Iam thinking to use as can lstore media on it due to the small 4-8 gig hard drive.

This notebook is suppose to be very well designed to carry around obsorbing bumps and knocks.

On special at JB Hi-Fi for $460 ish.

I take it I will require all parts you have used on your setup to make this function.

If anyone is competent in hooking up one on the South East QId please PM me.

Cheers

Paul

What do you think of going this way.

In my opinion, I wouldnt get an Eee PC, There pretty errr.. Whats the right word for it... "Underpowered" ?

These are the Specs:

7" Display

2-8GB HDD

8-900 MHz Processor

Usually 512mb RAM

I would rather fork out the extra few hunred for a Mac Mini.

Yeh had a better look at specs and agree.

just seen one and thought how easy to sit in glove compartment.

So what is the best place for me to purchase the required items to do this setup.

keep in mind Iam in SE QLD.

Anyone out there that can help me with a install, will pay to do it, just give me a quote and we can go from there.

Cash job.

Urgent before I spend my money on other things.

For the Monitor / Carnetix Power Supply and a few other things, try the Mp3Car Store

Remember Mp3car.com is a USA based site, So you will need to convert the Prices to AUD.

Try XE.com to Convert the prices.

The Mac Mini you should try to source from Ebay (Either Australian one or American one)

If your going to get stuff from the USA, Do it soon, The AUS Dollar is at 94.88 US Cents!

Adam,

Love the system, looks the part..

Am venturing down the same path as you with the VGA to CGA converter.

Just curious, what did you use to change the cars 12v power to the 5v required for the converter? or are you just running it on the 12v from car power???

Thanks. :snf (11):

The CarNetix CNX-P2140 has two outputs which can be set at different voltages.

One is at 18.5v for the Mac Mini and the other is at 5v for the video converter.

While my car computer has been out waiting arrival of my BF I've been able to modify the Centrafuse display slightly to make it look more factory...

P1020394.jpg

I've also removed the warnings and limitations within Centrafuse. This now allows SatNav directions to be entered on the move and videos/dvds to be shown at full screen while on the move. The 2 warning notices that come up when Cetrafuse starts have also been removed.
