Diff Issues

Wondering if anyone out thre has an opinion on my problem.

I purchased a used BA XR6T in Oct last year, vehicle has full service history. At roadworthy the service manager advised the previous owner the diff bushes needed to be replaced, which were. There was always a knock after I took delivery of the car which progressivley got worse to the point where today I checked it in to my local Ford outlet.

They said that the screw which bolts into the bushes was either under or over tightened at the previous service (RW in Oct) to the point where it was now just basically hanging loosely out of the diff housing rendering the car undriveable. The local guys suggested it was a Ford service issue and I shouldn't have to pay the $1,900 required to rectify it. They advised me to contact the previous service provider and explain the problem. Upshot is now that he (previous service) has basically denied all responsibility.

Has anyone had any similar experiences, with good outcomes??

PS. Sorry it was so F@*king long!

I had this problem and would have ugly vibrations fro mthe rear and under neth.

ford repalced a diff bushes which were worn out but still didn fix my problem and I payed $700 then I took it to HPF and apprently had no weights on my tailshaft.

so I took it back to ford to get them to have a look again and told them what I was told from HPF.

so that had to be re balanced and ford found out that the the screw which bolts into the bushes was stripped and was just moving around in side but ford apprently reckon they didnt see it when they replaced the bushes :S

now its all good know with the tailshaft reblanced and weights put on and new bolt and mouthing brackets in the diff housing.

hope this helps.

I had the same problem with my diff bush getting flogged out and the bolt getting broken.

ford fixed it with a new bolt (I supplied the bush) for $550!!

1900 sounds a little steep to me mate.

Has anyone got any pis of what I am supposed to look for when looking for this.

I have had bad vibrations for a while and now its getting worse where at 100 km/hr the rear end makes a wer....wer...wer to the speed of the car during deceleration and fine at cruizing at 100 then fine under very easy acceleration then as I push on the accelerator harder it start to vibrate again but differently for the deceleration.

Over 120 it starts vibrating (harmonic) through the car and gets worse with speed.

I had the tail shaft changed 6 times and ford wont go over 100km/hr and they say that nothings wrong.

Any ideas. If the bearings were gone wouldn't I here it all the time?

Cheers

unfortunatly you cant see anything without dropping the diff, and that's a pretty big job I think. I could tell my diff bolt was broken because it was hanging out and wouldn't tighten.

not sure that this will be related to your problem though, as even with a rooted bush and broken bolt I didn't have any vibration at speed, only clunks when changing gears or taking off.

There are several things which can cause vibration.

You have 3 bushes holding the diff, all of which can be damaged and not easily detectable.

My centre bush looked OK, but when I pulled the rear subframe out, I could see that the rubber had been crushed, and had split, basically providing no support.

There are many components in the rear suspension which could cause noise and vibration, so a thourough inspection is required to determine what is causing the problem.

On my car the bolt thread for the centre bush was OK.
