Cruise Control Problem

My auto BAT's cruise control is malfunctioning. The car is stock.

The 'CRUISE' icon goes out after random periods of time following an engine start. Period ranges from 1 minute to 20 minutes.

The 'CRUISE' control icon (and cruise control function) will not activate unless the engine is first stopped and then restarted.

The problem manifest immediately after a warranty replacement of the throttle position sensor. There had never been any problems with the cruise system prior to this.

The dealership is most helpful but cannot find the solutions atm. They did repair a faulty brake light and thought that they had solved the problem at that stage.

Subsequent dealer investigations have found system codes that suggest a wiring issue. The Forum search function does not yield any examples of this exact problem.

I did ask the dealership to backtrack to the throttle position sensor repair to check for loose connectors and pinched wires.

Any ideas anyone?

Cruise control is controlled from and by a lot of switches and senders including switches on the clutch and brake pedal.

On my wifes Toyota some years back I found the Brake Switch to be RS . The cruise control used to drop out @ times.

It is not 'going off' cruise is it, not asif you tap brake? The whole system is switching off as if you click the off button?

I think that's what he's saying. I would suggest it's something with the TPS, as if the cruise control detects any problems it will just simply shut down.

What are the dealers doing now - or is it sitting in the 'to hard basket'?

I had the same problem on my BF - turned out to be the blue plastic cap on the back of the sensor would half-pop off all by itself.

Had me guessing though. No warnings or anything - just no cruise.

I won't start a new thread instead I'll just ask here.....my Cruise Control is playing up too.

Problem: Cruise Control can be turned on using the side paddle to get the "CRUISE" indicator on the dash, but pressing RES/CRUISE, SET + and SET - buttons does not set the Cruise Control.... Any ideas ?????

Check your brake light fuse.

Fuses are all good......it's weird

The fuse is good but are you getting power on both sides of the fuse?

Maybe you've dislodged a wire when wiring the gauges up to the phone connector.

Did you replace the brake lights with LED's ?

If so that is the problem.
