Was driving back from Wollongong to Sydney yesterday and, as the drive is quite boring, decided to work out the best cruise speed using the cruise control between 95kph and 110kph for economy by checking the 'inst fuel' reading.

As it turned out there werent enough flat bits long enough to test all speeds out properly.

Was wondering if anyone has done this so I dont need to try working this out next time again.

Mine is a 6 speed manual.

Im sure that a 5 speed manual and the 4 and 6 speed autos would have different optimum economy speeds so I guess we need all 4 for everyone to benefit from this.

I know after enduring a seemingly endless section of roadworks in the BA 85 km/h was the best. Yet to try it in the BF though...thankfully :spoton:

But I’d much rather waste fuel and get away from all of the other maniacs on the road as quick as possible.

Drove from Winton to Melbourne yesterday down the hume and averaged 9.2l/100k and that was with the cruise control set the whole way at 110kph on the trip computer not the speedo.

Have averaged 7.8 consistant on the drive north, tailwind, very flat, optimax extreme.

I have scientifically worked out best fuel consumption is definately under 200kph
