I have the CK3100 unit in the F6 and TT.

It has all the features you could want and it works.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy the Ford Bluetooth either sorry, waaaaay overpriced for what it is, thanx Ford. For that sort of functionality I'd pay $100 max installed.

I almost got excited about the Parrot GPS unit, thinking it was a Bluetooth and GPS in one, but it just connects to a PDA. Anybody know of a system like the Parrot that has GPS touchscreen, that would be cool.

OEM car kits are more expensive than the generic variety,

and some of them have rather big issues, such as the one for the X5 which costs over $800 as a dealer fit and which only works on a handful of phones....

Also played with the latest version of Bluetooth from a current model mid range Lexus the other day... pretty amazing but a essentially a misguided design that relied on complexity for wow factor.... remined me of a 'sports' analogue wristwatch with lots and lots of dials and knobs.... all show and next to useless in application bar the primary function.

The GPS touch sceen functionality you are seeking is currently available in a small form factor WM5 PDA phone, the Xda Orbit (UK only ATM). Size is the same as the current 'Atom' series. Hope the hardware reliability is however completely different to the Atom which is an uber lemon. GPS and PDA phones work naturally together as they are connected by the address book.

Lastly, possible operational issues noted in an earlier thread with Ford Bluetooth module are resolved. Fix involved minor dealer rectification.... and not keeping the cabin fan on high when calls are in progress.

"CONNECTING TO THE BLUETOOTH® MOBILE PHONE KIT

· The kit can be set up to connect with up to 7 different mobile phones. Each time you get into

the vehicle, the kit will automatically detect your mobile phone and make the connection."

Does this mean that if two phones are paired to the BT Car Kit, and either handset rings whilst in the car, you can answer via the car kit?

Effectively you have two connections running (not 2 phones calls running), and you can answer via the kit no matter which phone rings?

The Bluetooth kit only makes one phone connection at a time.

The kit chooses from one of the seven allowed pairings based on a priority system.

If two or more pairings are within range the kit will choose the most recently connected pairing, followed by the next most recent pairing and so on until a connection is made or there are no more pairings available.

Example : If my wife last drove the car and then we both jump into the car the Bluetooth will connect to her phone in preference to mine.

I can confirm this also works using a Vista laptop. I've done it before with a WM6 smartphone and a Nokia N73.

I have a Toshiba laptop with integrated BT running vista ultimate and had no trouble pairing up with the Ford BT car kit. The audio quality doesn't sound that great but it could be handy for anyone who had a small laptop like an EEPC with bluetooth adapter and wanted to stream some music.

You can fix some of the audio quality by tweaking the EQ in winamp and probably by using some autogain type plugins. Note that the sub volume is almost non-existant though.

I have no idea if this works under XP (I believe vista's BT stack has more profiles than the WINXP SP2 stack) but its probably worth a shot. See the pic attached for which profile to use. (no drivers required)

If you can't see the Ford BT kit to start with when searching for it - hold down the button on the kit for a couple of seconds and then try searching for it again.

TIP: if theres no sound after you pair it up and the drivers finish installing - set your output device in winamp/MPC to "bluetooth audio" (or ford bluetooth audio etc) and then it will work.

Parrots are a reasonable BT product...

If you dont 'need' the screen on the Parrot, just go and get urself a BT headset!

So Much cheaper and easier...

Most fully integrated car kits (SE, Motorola, Nokia etc), will cost about the same as the Ford BT will now days at 400-500$...
