Have just called two local dealers for a price on 15k service for my daughters car. 2006 Focus Zetec. Both quoted $240. The service book time for an "A" Service is 1 hour. Price for oil & filter $$44.70 (genuine) which are the only things changed on this service. the rest of it is look and check, scratch balls, look again and charge $195.30 for apprentice lubricating the door hinges etc. What a load of :spoton: I'll be going to my mechanic for this and Ford can kiss my :spoton:

Me too.

All my servicing is now done at my local "Fully authorised" Ultra Tune.

20 thou service from Spasda: $290 quoted. From Ultra Tune: $130 covering all book items and a tire rotation.

No brainer really.

My GF's focus has just had a 55K klm service done, and the morons at ford managed to reset her radio ??.

so they said do this do that, all didnt work.

oh try this code they say..

mm doesnt work, lets pull the radio out, ocme back here..

ripped radio out ,said oh this isnt the origional one..

no they replaced it when the dials cracked!

so they got the code and it works well,

except for the fact that they levered it our with something which left marks that look like flat head screw driver ones..

NEVER AGAIN :spit: 'em!

if anyone wants to know which dealer to stay away from PM me but they start with B and are located in te northern suburbs of melbourne.

and everyone asks why I diy all my maintanance?

Make sure they use genuine Ford parts, or else they can refuse warranty.

It doesnt matter who stamps the book, or who works on it, qualified or not, if the engine stops cause Ultra Tune or shady's lube's fitted a non genuine filter, FoMoCo have every right to refuse you warranty - and they probably would.

The money you save getting your car serviced at a local mechanic, or a backyarder could end up costing you a whole lot more.....

Exactly.. And knowing how fussy Ford are.. Ill spend the extra $100 - $150 on a service.. After all $100 is peanuts these days..

Pats sure, but filters, no. This all came about over an MTA ruling about 10 years ago. A manufacturer voided a warranty cause a person had their car serviced by their local mechanic. The customer and MTA took the manufacturer to court and the ruling was that as long as the work was done by a licenced mechanic, all was good. On apeal by the manufacturer, it was further ruled that all manufacturers were operating outside of trade practices on fair competition.

Manufacturers now have to warant all cars properly serviced by qualified mechanics where genuine parts are used, not including fuel and oil filters as no manufacturer can prove their filters are any better than a Ryco, etc. (as long as they are the same spec as the originals).

Any decent mechanic will realise this and use genuine parts for cars under warranty. Also, proper mechanics tend to take more care and do all of the checks instead of just ticking them off a sheet.

Forget the savings, if you respect your car, don't get factory servicing. Just read the posts on this forum and see how mnay problems they cause. The money saved is a bonus.
