my company just announce today 80 jobs r going 2 hungry!!!!

wont name which 1 obviously!

people think so short term!

WhereTF r our kids going to work? or grandkids

sure u got 2 buy another lamborghini, extra pin strips for your suit.. but your kids will be paying mega bucks for shoes when in 20-30 years china discovers unions..

then, mark my words, world economy will be screwed!

but I suppose.... they will have made enough money to cover themselves when this happends.. so its only bad for us

A lot of the stuff from overseas is cr@p though.

At the end of winter the Mrs bought each of our 2 boys some gum boots.

I got up her cause one pair was made in china.

She said they were the only ones that would fit him.

Now get this..

The ones for the 3 year old have a picture of an elephant on them but are made in Australia.

The ones for his 4 year old brother have Koala's on them but are made in china.

They both cost the same price!!!

After 3 months the chinese ones are all cracked and splitting on the outside and the linning on the inside is coming away so he cant even put them on himself.

The Aussie ones are still going strong.

Dick Smith has been trying to get Aussies to buy Aussie for years. The unfortunate reality is that alot of families struggle from week to week, so whilst they would probably love to buy Aussie, they have no alternative but to buy a cheaper option. The answer might be as simple as saying lets buy Aussie, but the reality is alot of people just cannot financially aford to. Who knows where the future for our kids is, the governments think to short term (next election) so wont put any long term strategic plans in place to protect the next generations coming through. Sad but True.

It's a shame that another Aussie icon is going overseas, but it was going to happen eventually. I worked in the footwear industry from 78 to 88 in the plastics side and at that time the industry was huge. It began to go out the back door when the govt. announced tarriff reductions on imports. The worst part was that other countries kept there import tarriffs in place, so the aussie footwear manufacturers were immediately at a disadvantage and its been a steady decline for a long time. Im actually surprised that Blundstone lasted as long as they did as all of the other major players in the market were gone long ago. Unfortunately, the last thing Tassie needed was one of there major employers shutting down. I feel for the people who will become unemployed, but I dont see how boycotting Blundstone is going to fix it. Anything else you buy will be imported anyway and probably wont be Aussie owned. If you cant buy Aussie made, the next best thing is at least to buy Aussie owned. Just my 2 cents worth.

Well said. It wouldn't matter what Govt we had in place. They're all too scared of insulting China and the US by introducing propper import tarrifs. Then again, if they did, noone would be able to afford to buy anything.

I work in publishing and for us to print one of our large books in Australia, the cover price would be close to $1000. Who would buy it?

We can't sit here and complain about a lack of Aussie manufacturing and at the same time complain that wages are too low. It's a catch 22 and not a simple solution. Blundstone themselves have said that the Govt has already paid millions to them to assist their local production, but they can't keep doing it.

It is very unfortunate, but what can boycotting the company acheive except put another 100-200 admin and office staff out of work.
