I asked and was told Yes.

It will be remembered by the family for a LONG time and you get double brownie points for life. I think it is purely a respect thing now, as the rest of the traditions seem to have gone out the window, along with manners.

Take him to the pub or out to dinner and have a man 2 man chat.

Well done, I hope they both say yes

I have two sons-in-law and they both asked/told me first. It does earn you many brownie points which you may need to redeem sometime in the future.

If your intended is already pregnant, approach girls father on your knees.

If the old bugger says no, and do it anyway!

Yea we get along real well and I do not really see why he would say no, but going out to dinner would be a bit weired hahaha. Maybe just stay at home and have half a bottle of rakija/grappa each :spit:

No she is not reading over my shoulder

Steve, I'm taking her down to Marg River for a few days.

Noice... although from what I have heard its a bit sparse at margarets... :spit:

I was at Abbey Beach Resort in Busselton a couple of weeks ago and I reckon that is one of the nicest places in the South West to stay. Awesome apartments, excellent facilities and a great beach. If you havent booked yet check it out... highly recommended

Yeah mate, I agree with most of the above. Unless they're absolute tossers, they're certainly not going to think worse of you for asking - in fact, they are very likely to think much more highly of you if you do. I knew my father-in-law wouldn't have been offended if I hadn't asked first, but I did anyway and I know he appreciated the fact that I did. Just shows some respect and decent upbringing I think.

Good luck!

I didnt ask my father in law first, so when we told her parents - he said 'nobody asked me' with a silly smirk on his face, and so I asked him then! and he was delighted.

I didn't ask... I didn't think it was necessary as the bugger was always hounding me about when he was gonna see a ring on her finger... I told him that when we bought an XR she'd get the ring... two years later I finally coughed it up  Then he does the old.. "coulda asked me" pfft, righto pete, you were practically forcing me into it :spit:

Yea last time we went down south couple of years ago we stayed at Abbey Beach and I agree the place it very. We went during winter so did not get to use the beach, but the indoor pool and spa were awesome. It was also my first opportunity to discover how much I suck at playing squash :spit:

I have already booked a place, 5 star Luxury Villa overlooking a lake with a nice big undercover deck and outdoor spa etc. I was lucky to get the dates I wanted as it was all booked out for 3 months in advance.

The Mrs did all the asking including my old man. Back then you needed to be 21.

Now 36 years later still very happy !!

Is there a senior's section on this site? :spit: Just kidding.

One of my mates just got engaged which has buggered up my argument "but no-one else is married". Weakest argument out, but after almost 5 years she's pretty keen and her old man is just as keen. I ended up being the subject of a man-to-man (more like "listen here") chat at her brother's wedding last year.
