Happy to back you up 100% on the walbro, fine for 90% of driving, even if I Sneak up on a high speed run it copes, but if I floor it from say 60kph and hold it flat through the gears by 230-240ish, the pump is out of puff and the thing just stops, if I back of for a second or two, then into it again, its fine, so maybe its a combo of pump, fuel line size (guessing) pressure regulator having a little murmor at prolonged boost, I dunno, but it has happened to me more than once, and that's why before I do any more high speed stuff, a 2 liter surge tanks and Bosch are being fited.

I doubt you will find any traces of that plug tip, anywhere, it is Gooooone, turned to little bits of liquid and blown out the turbo, Best or luck with the search and rescue though.

PS: on wogs comments, I didnt read them as a having a go at your tuner, he asked if it had been RETUNED since the new engine, I dint see this as an attack, just asking to build a background to help diagnose the cause, which you did, but I saw no malice in his questions, just my opinion, I have no axe to grind with anyone. Yup, I know what it sounds like and trust me, it has never done it in its life before this. As I said, this was full throttle sustained load through 3-6th gears with three windows in the car down. Could not hear anything................. It has never pinged or detonated before this in its life - checked with headphones on dynos and all.

Eugene - you are spot on mate. I believe it is the fuel line also as explained to me it ain't that big. I would assume Cameron McLean knows what he is talking about as he has built a few race motors in his time.

we had helmets on.............................. add 3-5% as the 20" wheels are overdriven.........it was hootin' !!!!!!!!!! Didn't take long either!

I have been buying bits and pieces for my fuel system for this very reason, It makes me wonder htf these cars do what they do, when I ran 9's in my old car I had to have 3/4 fuel lines from the tank to the pump and then 5/8 to the rail, it only had 600 rwhp, yet changing from 5/8's and 1/2 inch made 2 tenths at the track. I guess not really ever pushing my car that hard as of yet I hadnt pushed the little walbro, Hence why I purchased the magnaflow 2000 hp pump.

Put that new pump in and get it back to the dyno mate, email me over the latest graphs and let me look at it

Woah, talk about jumping to conclusions. I know that Nick just happens to be my tuner, but that's not why I'm posting. I obviously have faith in Nick but I also have the utmost respect for Simon. I just think it's a bit of a pity that people get so touchy about the tuner issue, 'cos I gotta agree with Eugene that, in this case, I certainly don't think that Nick was having a go at anyone - hell, he didn't even know who the tuner was!!

As for being a Dr Phill, well yes, Nick is certainly a little guilty of that! But that's 'cos of the type of guy he is, way too nice 'n' helpful. He's only trying to give (free) friendly advice to help as many members as he can so don't shoot the poor fella for that. Ugly as he may be, he's still a top bloke. I dunno, Nick, how many times have I told you to take it a bit easy mate?!

Having said all that, I'm glad you found the source of the problem, Rapid, and sincerely hope that no damage was done and that you get it all sorted pronto. It's guys like you that test the limits of these cars and many of us appreciate the knowledge we gain from your experiences.

Thanks Bugster and please take some advice from me, do not trust a Walbro at these sort of power levels! As I said, I have proven that they are not up to the job with the factory fuel lines on the car.

I can confirm the walbros do run out of puff. I installed one in the ute and we did 6 consecutive runs and the fuel pump got hot and threw all the afr s out from 12.5 to 13.5. just to be sure we brought the car back the next day ran it fresh and it was perfect 12.5 This car made 321 @ the wheels. I wouldnt rely on just a walbro!
