Hi there folks I woz seeking some assistance on tyres...I have ordered 18' rims on my "T" and with that come the Dunlop 245/40's. Woz thinking of changing the rear tyres to 265's but not too sure if that will hinder my performance/handling. Can anyone help...?

I understand the look you're after 'cos I subscribe to the 'bigger is better' theory but the overall width of 40 series 18" tyres is mainly determined by the rim size, not the stated tyre width - ie: they won't look 20mm bigger.

I think 245 is the max. recommended tyre for 18x8" rims anyway - Mr Plow?

it you want to fit wider tyres to the rear unless you work out the side wall height very well it will stuff up your speedo and abs as it will sence the wheels are doing different speeds with the wrong tyres. although I doubt you could get the correct size tyres!

Hi ZMAN, I ran my own Bob Jane for 15 years so can give you this advice. Definite no no on standard 18 Ford rim. You need as ideal a 9.5" - 10" wheel for 265's although 9" - 10.5" is legal. Also 265/40x18 is just outside the max. allowable diameter increase and a 265/35x18 is too small in diameter. About 3 xr's ago I put 245/45x17 in place of 235/45x17 on 17x8 wheels and turned my car into such a dog, I took them off again. JUST DON'T DO IT. Regards Sport.

It seems from what I have read through differant threads that the diff between 18's and 17's is very little in handling terms and now the standard tyres are pretty good. Seems to me that Ford must have done a pretty good job with the factory set up.
