So I Can Select Reverse From 4th

I'm not sure if this is 'normal' or not, certainly haven't come across it before and was wondering if I should let the dealer have a look?

I have a Mk2 T with the 6sp manual. I'm fairly sure I wasn't able to get the gearstick through the gateway to 6th once the car was going forward but the other day I nearly went to Reverse from 4th by accident. The gearbox made a crunching noise to tell me I made a mistake but I thought I wasn't able to get that far in the first place.

Can anyone please let me know if that is indeed a fault I shuld have fixed?

Cheers :spoton:

Thanks Slymeat, I thought as much, but should I be able to get to that point in the first place?

i'd say no on that one..sounds like you reverse lock out solenoid isnt doing its job.

I had that happen, but I only noticed it with the generic capa map in it and wondered if the genric didn't have the ability to activate the solenoid

I had it happen at 160kph. Nasty. Reverse solanoid lockout not working. Off to the dealer with it..

Sounds like the reverse lockout is being powered up when it should not be. Many cars with a/m tuning have this problem. I have only ever seen one solenoid fail, and they fail safe, not open. Mal.
