Unichip Upgraded To Edit

Hi guys just some questions in regards to the unichip..... I recently purchased a flash tuner and was wondering if I can run the flash tuner in conjunction with the unichip. The next question is the car is heavily modified and I if I need to remove the unichip can I do it at home and then drive the car to the tuners (15km to 20km) away, would the factory ecu be able to handle the larger injectors, valve springs, intercooler ect....

SOme people have run both - but... it seems there is no need to. Better off with Edit only.

I would say not to remove the unichip and drive that far - it will run all wrong, and you will have the risk of munting the catalytic converter as it its likely to be running way too rich.

Why not take the car to tuners, and remove the unichip at their site?

I was going to to get the tuner to remove the unichip at there shop but they want to charge me $100 to do it.

sorry also the unichip is hard wired and not a plug in...

Spend the $100 to get them to remove it. Will be well worth it knowing it was done right!

Also keep us posted on the difference that edit made, when compared to the unichimp.

Yeah I will. But the only thing is I am going to a different tuner. His techniques might differ from my previous tuner. Ill keep you posted with the power gain if any. I tend to lean towards a safe tune than an aggressive tune.

My Opinion get the Unichip removed well worth 100 bucks. Atleast u can sell it and get the 100 back.

Hi,

I would not run the car minus the unichip - as others have said - just pay the $100. A cheap investment in protecting your car.

I had a Unichip along with the rest of an APS phase 2 kit on my car, and then replaced the Unichip with Edit. One of the best things I ever did!

Whilst the Unichip provides live tuning capacity, this doesn't mean much except it saves the tuner time between runs - the car needs this rest in any case so I see no compelling reason to retain the unichip. my understanding is piggy backs cannot compete with the capacity or sophistication of the factory ECU.

Thanks for that Ben. if the unichip I had was a plug in it would have been easy, but as I elected for the hard wire it’s a little more difficult to remove... I have spent allot of money modifying my car and for the sack of saving a hundred it’s not worth the risk. Cheers Sam
