Any Camera Buffs Out There

hi guys just wondering if anyone in the know can recoomend a good digi cam and a good video camera out there. I need the vid cam to be mini dv apparently. budgeting around 2-2500 for the both.

Digital Still Cams - I would recommend the Nikon D50 Digital SLR unit with the standard lens kit. Great for Amatuer fun photography. If SLR is not your preference then look at the Canon compact series 5MP and upwards.

I have the Nikon D70s SLR and it rocks. I also have the Canon IXUS for point and shoot.

As for Video, I would buy a hard disk camera now as they are faster and more flexiable. I cannot recommend any as I have not bought one for a couple of years.

Can't give you any advice about the cameras however, according to certain posts on this site, if you ever take a photo of your car on the grass, you must, by law, pack up your camera into the original box and return it for refund. Stupidity such as that is not allowed.

local paper here in Adelaide had Nikon Coolpix P2 priced at $349.95 today.

5.1 Megapixel, 3.5x optical zoom, 2.5" LCD, good point and shoot compact digital camera.

Ted's Camera Store... not sure if they have national (interstate) stores.

As to video cam???? what quality do you want.... most digital still cameras have a movie mode which is surprisingly reasonable for movie snippets...

But if you want to challenge Peter Jackson for an epic like "Lord of the Rings", you'll need omething better.

There are some very good 3ccd units... but at about $4k~5k a bit out of range.

Sony make some reasonable miniDV video cameras starting from about $650.

They have a better model with Zeiss lens for about $1400

Like everything when you want to spend some money.... shop around.

I fell into that trap once.

Nikon D100 with 12-24mm DX Lens and SB-800 Flash here, love the gear! Although canon have cheaper lenses and take a great shot also!

I just grabbed the new panasonic lumix tz-1 compact with 10x optical 5mg.. the thing is still tiny for a 10x optical.. not much bigger than a mans wallet.. takes a nice 'amatuer' photo without too much fuss and heaps of settings.. got a marine case with it for some water shots!

got a bloody good lens as well.. if I could remember what type?? my nerdy mate told me it was better than the zeiss lenses.. just like my g/box, german made of course

ok I have bought the panasonic gs500 video camera and the pansonic lumix tz7 digital still camera, havnt got to use them yet but they seem to be very good.
