Want A Sub In Your Ute?

Previously before my T, I had a BA XR6 N/A ute with some decent audio, one thing I found VERY annoying was the vibrations and dense mellow sound reverbs I was getting off the rear wall when using a big subwoofer. (12'-15')

When I got my T ute I "Dynamatted" the rear wall with "Dynamatt Extreme" sound deadening sheets. Its kind of pricey but worth every cent in the long run!

Once installed it gave the bass back its tight, solid sound and stopped 90% of the back end vibrations. not to mention road noise is cut heaps!

Subwoofers tuned to anything lower than 70hz will definately get most out of dynmatting, the lower frq's tend to rattle the car apart after a while causing noises that werent there 6 months previous

The front doors are OK'ish, the foam crap from factory actually works alright. but whatever Dynamat is left over try and put it around the back of your speaker holes to help absorb and make the panel more "solid" like.

The acoustics change dramatically when mounted on loose,thin panels.

Solid and thick mounts only!

While on the topic of sound quality and rattles, if using the back speaker thin arse metal panels when remounting use foam tape between the speaker panel and the mounting surace of the car, they are flimsy POS and even with a decent speaker that actually offers midrange, unlike the stock speakers, they rattle more than enough to be annoying.

Good post none the less Trough just means I gotta pull the back of my car apart now lol

Simon from Nizpro has put this or similar stuff in his ute and he said it's definately worth doing, it made it so much quieter.

make a whole new speaker panel from 6-10mm MDF, while your at it convert the 5x7's to 6x9' or 6.5'. nothing awesome for the back is necessary, its only "rear fill". a set of 2 way coax 6.5's will be perfect.

TurboCrazy: any decent audio shop should be able to get "Dynamat" or "roadkill" sound deadening products.

a "dynamat extreme large pack" is just perfect for doing the rear wall and doors.
