June 24, 200620 yr #1 Hi guysI just recently brought a new Momo gear knob.I was hoping that someone can give me some info on how to remove fords standard gear knob. I assume that it is a screw on type. But it is so thigh that it isn't screwing off.Has anyone changed the gear knob and can give me some tips on how to do it.Tim
June 24, 200620 yr #2 I have a ba auto and there is a little grub screw on the bottom of the gear knob, you undo that and it should slide off. Not to sure about the ba manuals or the bf.
June 24, 200620 yr #3 You just have to eat your Wheaties mate I could go on and make some rude crude and lewd comment about your having to screw harder ... but I won't.
June 24, 200620 yr #4 TimThey screw off anticlockwise. Mine was so tight I had to wrapped a rag around the gear knob (not to damage it ) and used a pair of stilzen just to loosen it a bit. Manual BA.CheersPaul Edited June 24, 200620 yr by Cowiesxr6t

He has a new MOMO one - just punch a screwdriver through it and turn.
June 24, 200620 yr #9 Ford actually apply loctite to the knob from the factory to prevent them from being nicked, and some are simply impossible to remove. If you really cant get it undone you will need to buy another gearstick, and removal is a nut and a bolt at the bottom of it joining to the shifter (under the boot). Ford couldnt get mine off when they replaced my gearbox so they took the whole thing off and replaced it with a new one.
