Hi All.

Had my T for a few weeks and already want to start the mods. Have been looking back at some threads but can someone give an idea on wheres best to start. I want to keep it useable on the streets and money is tight at the mo.

I thought I would go for an edit or chip first. Am I right in thinking that this would get rid of this crappy limp mode effect. I am hoping this would give the most noticable gain straight off. Then get a KN filter and zorst mod later to finish it off.

What do you think?

Hey Muncher...

Edit is the way to go first off the bat, that is what I have, gonna cost you between $1400.00-1995.00 depending on where you go... and it absolutely transforms the car!! A really easy first mod is to add a cold air intake (CAI) with a high flowing filter, I have the SS Inductions CAI ($360.00 of Ebay) with a K&N panel filter ($90-100.00), easy to fit and costs all up about $450.00... or you can go for the Typhoon intake...

Where abouts are you located?

mate, take it from me... save your money, and do it all at once. Especially if money is tight! If you get edit with a custom tune.. allow at least $1500. Say you did this, and then wanted to do the injectors, you'd need another re-tune. Then say you wanted to do cat/intercooler, you'd need another tune.

Basically I did edit first, then I went and did injectors, intercooler, fuel pump and cat. I should have done it all at once!

If you put your money aside, save at least $6500 for these mods.

Fuel pump ~ $400

Injectors ~ $600

Intercooler ~ $800

Cat ~ $300-$400

Edit tune ~ $1500

CAI ~ $400

Valve Springs ~ $700

Plus if you have a manual allow at least $1200 to $1300 (fitted) on a clutch. If you have an auto allow for cooler, plus trans work.

Alternatively, just get the edit and hope that the bug doesn't come back too soon!!

obviously the aboved mentioned mods will also need some one to fit them! so allow extra for labour. I was lucky and had a mate fit all my mods for peanuts! Also, valve springs are not always needed! It will depend on the year, make of your car. I have mark1, and I haven't needed to do valve springs yet. A high flowing cat will help the cause too.

Hi Guys, thanks for the replies. Jack I live in New Zealand, was the UK about 1yr ago. They don't sell the T over there so I thought would move to where they do :drivingalong: Mines a 2004 mk1, auto in black. I was lucky enough to find a really low K one (approx 18.000) with luxury pack.

I think the edit would be a good place to start then the CAI and zosrt. I have a mate who can help with these so should keep the price down. Any ideas on the type of edit to go for or any I should avoid?

Thanks ...............muncher :spoton:

Cut 'n paste from the CAPA (Edit) site re: Edit sellers/tuners in NZ;

SALES AND TUNING SHOPS

Auckland Performance Tuning

Phone: 09 298 4910

Fax: 09 298 2595

Torque Performance

No idea what they're like though, but give em a call.

And I agree with what the guys above said. First place - Edit, but the more you do at the same time, the more you save in tuning costs.

I've got Edit myself, the next step for me would be 'jectors.

Jack I live in New Zealand

Nice one mate... a couple of my best mates are ex-pat kiwi's... all from the North Island :drivingalong: one from around Tauranga (his uncles still live there) where it looks like you are from!! It's a beautiful place... especially the beaches!!

Anyway... I was talking to Simon from Nizpro (a major tuner here in Melbourne) yesterday and they in conjunction with CAPA who distribute the flash tuner needed for the edit are holding a workshop/seminar specifically designed as an infomation sharing and learning experience here in the next couple of weeks and they have a tuner coming from New Zealand... so maybe getting in contact with them might start to send you in the right direction, address as follows...

Torque Performance NZ (Robin)

6 Fremlin Place

Avondale

Auckland

New Zealand

Phone

09 828 7054

And by the look of it if my memory serves me correctly they aren't too far from you in Auckland...

Or you could try PM'ing a member from here named cobrav8, I believe he has an XR6T and he's from NZ too, maybe you could ask him as I imagine he would have a little more local knowledge than me...

Hope that has helped you mate... good luck with it!!
